Elcometer 510 Automatic Pull-Off Adhesion Tester
Description
An automatic hydraulic pull-off tester for coating adhesion on steel and concrete
The Elcometer 510 is an automatic pull-off adhesion tester that measures the bond strength between a coating and its substrate. A hydraulic pump applies a smooth, continuous load at a controlled pull rate, which gives repeatable results that comply with the standards listed in the datasheet.
It is used for acceptance testing of protective coatings on steel, concrete and other substrates, with 10, 14.2, 20 and 50 mm reusable dollies. Readings up to 100 MPa (14,400 psi) are possible with the 10 mm dolly.

Test routine and failure attributes
The dolly is glued to the coating with a two-part epoxy, the coating is cut around it if required, and the actuator is fitted over the dolly. The gauge pulls at the selected rate until the dolly detaches, or to a preset limit with a unique time hold feature. The result and the failure type are what matter: ISO 4624 and ASTM D4541 require recording whether the failure was cohesive within a coat, adhesive between coats or a glue failure. The 510 stores attribute codes with each reading.
For low bond strength substrates such as concrete or wood, a larger 50 mm dolly gives repeatable results; a concrete adhesion kit is offered, and 50 mm accessories can be added to an existing kit. An optional magnetic anchor clamp (T99923797) holds the actuator during tests on vertical surfaces.
Choosing a kit and what to confirm
Select the dolly size from the expected adhesion strength, because each dolly diameter has its own operating range. Model T adds the advanced pull rate settings, limits, hold time, pull rate graphs and Bluetooth. Confirm the substrate, the standard your specification calls for and whether skirts, cutters and consumables such as epoxy are included in your kit. For coating thickness see the Elcometer 456, or browse portable test and measurement instruments.

About brand
Coating inspectors carry Elcometer gauges on painting and blasting jobs to record that a protective coating has been applied to specification. The company was founded in 1947 in Manchester, United Kingdom, and works in coating inspection and thickness gauges. Seven Star LLC lists the Elcometer 456 separate coating thickness gauge and supplies Elcometer instruments and probes to inspection teams in Oman on inquiry.
Elcometer 456 coating thickness gauges
The Elcometer 456 measures dry film thickness. The separate version in our listing takes plug-in probes on a cable, so one gauge body can work with different probes. Probe choice follows the substrate: ferrous probes for coatings on steel, non-ferrous probes for coatings on metals such as aluminum, and dual probes for both. Probe scale and shape are chosen to suit the coating thickness and the access to the surface.
Ordering Elcometer gauges and probes: what we need
Send the gauge model letter and part number from the label, the substrate, the expected coating thickness range, the probe type and scale, and any accessories such as reference foils. If a test certificate from the manufacturer is required, say so in the request. Fabrication yards across the GCC usually name the inspection standard as well.
