Hilti PR 40-22 Cordless Rotating Laser Level
Description
The Hilti PR 40-22 is a cordless single-slope rotating laser level for exterior levelling, aligning, sloping and squaring. It rotates at 300, 600 or 1000 rpm, self-levels within plus or minus 5 degrees, is rated IP66 and runs on the 22 V Nuron battery platform, with an accuracy that Hilti states as plus or minus 1.5 mm at 30 m.
Site levelling, grading and formwork
Hilti lists horizontal levelling for formwork, concrete pours, excavation and height transfer; vertical aligning for columns, facades and vertical formwork; slope and grading for ramps, car parks and pipes; and squaring for formwork. A one-button design allows one-person operation, with automatic functions set within 300 m diameter through the PRA 400 remote/receiver. The PRA 400 detects the rotating beam at up to 800 m diameter, shows digital offset values and controls automatic functions such as vertical alignment, digital slope entry and slope checking.

Durability and system notes
Hilti cites a new aluminium core, internal dampers, shock-absorbing head and handles and the IP66 rating to hold accuracy in rough site conditions, and Nuron smart asset tracking and battery life indication. The manual and the PRA 400 manual are separate documents; a quick-start guide for the PR 40-22 is also published by Hilti. Rotating-laser accuracy should be checked periodically and after impacts using the procedure in the manual.

The brothers Martin and Eugen Hilti opened a small mechanical workshop in Schaan, Liechtenstein, in 1941, and the company turned to fastening technology after Martin Hilti acquired a fastening patent in 1948. Hilti is still headquartered in Schaan and controlled by the Martin Hilti Family Trust, created in 1980.
