Brand:

Gent VIGPLUS-24 Vigilon Plus 1-4 Loop Fire Alarm Panel

Description

VIGPLUS-24: Gent Vigilon Plus addressable fire alarm control panel, 1 to 4 loops

The Gent VIGPLUS-24 is a Vigilon Plus analogue addressable fire alarm control panel supplied with one loop card and an integral printer. It is expandable to four detection loops, is designed to EN 54 parts 2 and 4, and forms the core of a fire detection system for buildings and industrial sites.

Within the Gent range the code identifies the 1 to 4 loop panel with one loop card and printer; the sister code VIGPLUS-24-NP is the same panel without a printer, and VIGPLUS-72 is the larger 1 to 6 loop panel with a 72-hour standby option. Seven Star LLC supplies the VIGPLUS-24 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

How the VIGPLUS-24 works

Each detector on the loop sends analogue values to the panel in digital form. The panel monitors the background conditions every 80 seconds and, when a sensor reaches a threshold, takes 256 data readings, using fast scanning to locate threshold outstations within 0.5 seconds. Addresses are set by the panel (soft addressed) rather than by switches on the devices.

Short or open circuit faults on the loop are isolated by isolators in the devices, so the rest of the loop keeps working. Features such as co-incidence and multi-level detection, programmable output delays, timers to switch sensor states, and 255 non-fire programmable commands support site-specific cause-and-effect logic.

System fit and related Vigilon parts

A VIGPLUS-24 panel can be extended with additional loop cards VIG-LPC-EN, a copper network card VIG-NC or a fibre card VIG-NC-FO, and the VIG-IOC-DOM card for external communications. Field devices include S-Quad optical, heat and multi-sensor detectors, beam detectors, manual call points, sounders, visual alarm devices and loop-powered interface units. Fully functional loop repeater panels and mimic panels can be added on each loop.

For compact installations the 1 to 2 loop Compact Plus is the smaller panel, while the VIGPLUS-72 extends the platform to six loops and 72-hour standby.

Loop capacity planning with the VIGPLUS-24

Each loop can carry up to 200 addressable devices, including up to 200 loop-powered sounders, 100 visual alarm devices and 125 sensors with integral sounder, subject to loop loading. Up to 16 beam sensor pairs, 170 four-channel interfaces and four mimic or repeat panels can sit on one loop. Because the number of mixed devices is limited by loop current, the design should be checked with the manufacturer’s loop calculator before the cable route is fixed.

Spreading devices across loops by building zone or floor makes faults easier to isolate, and leaving spare capacity of 10 to 20 percent on every loop keeps future extension simple.

Selection and ordering checklist

  • Number of loops and devices now and in the future (limit 4 loops on this panel).
  • Printer required (VIGPLUS-24) or not (VIGPLUS-24-NP).
  • Networking: copper or fibre network cards, number of panels.
  • Standby battery duration against the project specification.
  • Repeater, mimic and interface requirements.
  • Surface or flush mounting.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance

Mount the cabinet on a firm wall at a suitable height with clear access, wire the mains supply through a dedicated fused spur, and connect the standby batteries last. Install loop cabling to the manufacturer’s recommendations, test insulation and loop resistance, then allocate addresses from the panel or commissioning software. The flash memory card supports commissioning and extended event log storage.

Maintenance follows the local fire code: periodic detector tests, battery checks (the panel reports charger or battery faults individually), cleaning of sensors in dusty environments and review of the event log.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Addressable panels of this class are used in commercial towers, hospitals, hotels, airports, schools, warehouses, industrial plants and utility buildings. In dusty or hot conditions, select detectors and bases suitable for the environment, and allow for the effect of high ambient temperature on batteries; local civil defence approvals and project specifications decide the final configuration.

About brand

Gent is a British fire detection and alarm brand that traces its history to 1872, when John Thomas Gent started his business in Leicester. Gents' of Leicester made electric bells, signalling equipment and, for more than a century, electric clocks for public buildings and railway stations, before turning to fire and life safety systems. Gent has been part of Honeywell since 2005 and is still based in Leicester.

Seven Star LLC supplies Gent fire alarm panels and system parts to contractors and facility teams in Oman, including Vigilon control panels and loop cards for existing sites.

Gent Vigilon panels and parts listed here

Three of the items on this page are panel parts. The Vigilon Compact Plus is the smaller panel for one or two loops. The Vigilon Plus, listed as VIGPLUS-72, is the larger control panel for one to six loops with 72-hour standby capacity. The VIG-LPC-EN loop card adds or replaces a loop circuit in the VIGPLUS-24 and VIGPLUS-72 panels. On the loops, Gent uses its own device families, notably S-Quad devices that combine multi-sensor detection with sounder, voice and visual alarm options.

Ordering Gent fire alarm parts: what we need

Gent systems are configured per site, so details matter. Send the part number from the panel or card label, the panel type and number of loops, the panel firmware version if shown, and the device types on the loop. For a new panel, state loops required, network cards, printer or repeater options and battery size. We supply to projects in the GCC and check each part number against the manufacturer's documentation.

Facts checked against Honeywell's Gent 150-year press release and the Science Museum Group archive, October 2026.
