Endress+Hauser FMB70 Deltapilot S Hydrostatic Transmitter

Description

Endress+Hauser FMB70 Deltapilot S high-accuracy hydrostatic transmitter

The Endress+Hauser FMB70 is the Deltapilot S, the higher-grade hydrostatic level and pressure transmitter in the Endress+Hauser Deltapilot line. It uses the same condensate-resistant CONTITE measuring cell as the Deltapilot M, but adds a tighter accuracy class of up to 0.075 % of the set span, a replaceable HistoROM/M-DAT memory for the electronics, functional safety capability up to SIL 3 and a wide choice of hygienic process fittings. The FMB70 mounts at the vessel connection and measures liquids, gases and paste-like media.

Seven Star LLC supplies the FMB70 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat. This page covers what sets the FMB70 apart, its main data and what we need to quote the correct version.

These specifications come from the Endress+Hauser technical information for the Deltapilot S FMB70. Limits depend on the cell, connection and options chosen.

How the FMB70 measures

A liquid column produces a pressure that depends on its height and density. The FMB70 reads that pressure on a metal diaphragm and transmits it through oil to a silicon element that sits between the process diaphragm and a rear isolating membrane. This construction seals the element from the air reference, so condensation and aggressive gases cannot reach it. The sensor also measures its own temperature with a resistance bridge, and the electronics use that value to remove temperature error. A 32-point linearization table converts pressure to volume in tanks of irregular shape.

The result is a stable signal: the datasheet total performance is ±0.15 % of the upper range limit with the standard class and ±0.12 % with the platinum class on the 1.2 to 10 bar cells, from –10 to +60 °C. Two FMB70 devices and a PLC can give differential level in a closed tank, or density from a known vertical spacing.

FMB70 process connections and safety options

The FMB70 accepts a G 1½ A thread (316L, or with an Alloy C276 bottom section), a 1½ MNPT thread, EN, ASME and JIS flanges and flush hygienic connections such as DIN 11851 DN 40 and DN 50, DIN 11864-1 A DN 50, Tri-Clamp, DRD DN 50 (65 mm) and Anderson adapters. Options include a gold-rhodium coated diaphragm for hydrogen diffusion, 3.1 inspection certificates, cleaning for paint-wetting-free service, a separate housing and 3-A and EHEDG approvals for the adapters. For safety loops, the 4 to 20 mA version supports use up to SIL 3 under IEC 61508, with overfill protection to WHG, a GL marine approval and an NSF 61 drinking-water approval available as order options.

Where the FMB70 fits and related Deltapilot models

Use the FMB70 when accuracy, long-term stability or SIL 3 are decisive, when the media is hygienic and the fitting must be flush, or when you want the replaceable memory to simplify electronics swaps. For cable, rod or well installations, the Deltapilot M family with the FMB51, FMB52 and FMB53 is built for that, and the FMB50 is the compact Deltapilot M counterpart with fewer high-accuracy options. The optional HistoROM/M-DAT memory chip makes the electronics easy to replace.

Selecting and ordering an FMB70

  • Cell range: select the cell for the maximum head plus top pressure, and keep the turn down within the accuracy limit for that cell.
  • Accuracy class: standard or platinum. The 4 and 10 bar cells have the highest turn-down range.
  • Process connection: thread, flange or hygienic fitting; a lower pressure rating on the connection reduces the overpressure limit of the whole device.
  • Output and housing: HART, PROFIBUS PA or FOUNDATION Fieldbus with T14, T15 or T17, display, and cable entry or plug.
  • Safety and approvals: SIL declaration, WHG overfill, marine, drinking water and the Ex family (ATEX, FM, CSA, NEPSI, IECEx, TIIS) as required.
  • Hazardous-area ambient: certified devices can be ordered for ambient temperatures down to –50 °C with the correct test certificate option.

FMB70 installation, commissioning and maintenance

When measuring media with solids, add a separator and a drain valve at the tapping point so sediment can be flushed out. Position the housing for the best display view and use the 380 degree rotation to align the cable entry down. Correct any position-dependent zero shift with the keys on the device, which can be done also in a hazardous area with external operation. For steam or hot cleaning, observe the 135 °C limit of 30 minutes.

In service the FMB70 needs little attention. At shutdowns, check the diaphragm area for coating, check the cover seal and the cable entry, and verify the zero. For SIL loops, follow the functional safety manual and keep proof-test records.

Typical FMB70 applications in Oman and the GCC

In Oman and the GCC, the FMB70 is used where an accurate reading matters: tank inventory in chemical and petrochemical storage, boiler feedwater and condensate vessels at power plants, chemical dosing tanks at desalination and water treatment plants, and hygienic lines in food, dairy and pharmaceutical factories. The stainless T17 housing suits washdown areas, and the ambient range of –40 to +85 °C without display suits outdoor sites.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, Endress+Hauser instruments are common in oil and gas production and processing, refineries and petrochemicals, desalination and water networks, wastewater treatment, power plants and food and beverage plants. Coriolis meters measure hydrocarbon and chemical flows, electromagnetic meters cover water and wastewater, radar transmitters handle tank and silo level, and Liquiline analysers monitor water quality. Proline 300 and 500 flowmeters include Heartbeat Technology for in-situ verification, which reduces the need to remove a meter for checks.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

The order code on the nameplate (for example PMP71-1QA1S11RDADU) defines every option: measuring range, process connection, materials, output, approvals and display. Send it with the serial number; Endress+Hauser can retrieve the original configuration from the serial number. For a new instrument add the medium, operating and design pressure and temperature, range, line size or tank geometry, process connection, wetted materials, output or protocol (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus) and the hazardous-area approval required. Older models such as Promass 80/83 or Micropilot M are replaced by current Proline or 80 GHz Micropilot devices.
