Delta DVP-15MC CANopen Multi-Axis Motion Controller
Description
Delta DVP-15MC CANopen multi-axis motion controller (DVP15MC11T)
The Delta DVP-15MC, shown on the product page as DVP15MC11T, is a multi-axis motion controller developed by Delta around the CANopen field bus. It complies with the DS301 basic communication profile and the DSP402 motion-control profile, and it supports the standard motion instruction libraries defined by international organisations. Up to 32 axes can be controlled through the motion port.
It is the CANopen counterpart of the EtherCAT DVP-50MC. Where a plant already uses CANopen servo drives, or where cost and wiring favour a CAN bus, the DVP-15MC offers the same style of programming. Seven Star LLC supplies it in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
Standards behind the controller
DS301 defines how CANopen devices communicate: object dictionary, process data and network management. DSP402 defines the drive profile, which standardises operating modes such as position, velocity, torque and homing so drives from different makers can respond to the same commands.

How the DVP-15MC executes motion
The motion port acts as a CANopen master toward the drives. The program issues position, speed, torque or homing commands to each real axis, and the controller converts these into CANopen messages in the DSP402 profile. Because a CAN bus carries less data per cycle than EtherCAT, the page gives longer synchronisation times: 2 ms for four axes and 4 ms for eight.
Virtual and encoder axes work the same way as in the DVP-50MC: a virtual axis can serve as a master for gear or cam relations, and an encoder axis can follow an external shaft. Instructions such as electronic gear, E-Cam and rotary cut let slave axes track a master, while the G-code engine handles interpolated paths for up to 8 axes.
As in the DVP-50MC, the 20 MB program and data areas and the double-precision floating-point support provide room for cam tables, recipes and path programs. Since the listed synchronisation times grow with the axis count, plan the number of axes against the machine cycle rather than assuming the 32-axis ceiling applies at the fastest update rate.
Where the DVP-15MC fits
A separate CANopen port lets the controller serve as host or slave in a wider network, independent of the motion port. Two Ethernet ports support HMI and supervisory access, and the serial ports connect legacy devices. Left and right DVP-S series modules add I/O and communication as needed.
For many fast axes with tight synchronisation, compare the DVP-50MC. For simple pulse-train machines with a few axes, consider the DVP-SE2 or the third-generation DVP-SV3 and DVP-SX3 with CANopen DS301 support.
Selection checklist for the DVP-15MC
- Drive compatibility: CANopen servo or inverter drives supporting DSP402.
- Axis count and update time: 4 axes at 2 ms or 8 axes at 4 ms.
- Cable length and baud rate over the CAN bus, which affect reliability.
- Motion functions: cam, gear, rotary cut or G-code.
- Feedback: encoder and SSI interfaces needed.
- Number of Ethernet connections required.
- Expansion modules from the DVP-S series.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the DVP-15MC
Wire the CAN bus as a proper line with correct termination at both ends and shielded twisted-pair cable, and keep it away from power cables. Assign unique node IDs and a common baud rate before attaching the controller. Commission axis by axis, verifying homing and limits first.
Back up the program and cam data to the SD card, note the node map in the panel documents, and keep a matching spare controller for critical machines. When replacing a unit, restore the program, the node map and the cam tables together, then re-verify homing on every axis before releasing the machine to production.
Typical DVP-15MC applications in Oman and the GCC
Delta lists high-speed cutting machines, digital board cutting machines and CNC lathes as applications. In the region this equates to cutting and converting lines, packaging machinery and OEM fabrication equipment. Where ambient temperatures are high and dust is present, mount in a ventilated or cooled enclosure.
DVP-15MC against DVP-50MC
| Controller | Key points |
|---|---|
| DVP-15MC | CANopen motion port; 4 axes in 2 ms or 8 axes in 4 ms; 2 Ethernet ports |
| DVP-50MC | EtherCAT; 32 axes in 1 ms; 1 Ethernet port |

About brand
Delta Electronics is a Taiwanese maker of power and automation products, founded in April 1971 by Bruce Cheng with 15 employees in a small factory in Sinjhuang, Taipei County. Its first products were TV deflection coils and electronic components; it later became a leading maker of switching power supplies and added drives, PLCs and HMIs for industrial automation. Delta is headquartered in Neihu, Taipei, and listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
Seven Star LLC lists the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module and the ESR-48/30D rectifier module, and sources Delta PLC modules and power parts for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line
Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.
