Delta DVP-EX3 Series PLC with Built-in Analog I/O

Description

Delta DVP-EX3 series PLC with built-in analog I/O

The Delta DVP-EX3 is the third generation of the DVP compact PLC family, built around the same 32-bit high-speed processor as the AS series. It is a main-unit controller with Ethernet, CAN and RS-485 on board, plus analog inputs and, on larger models, analog outputs. Seven Star LLC supplies DVP-EX3 units in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

The DVP-EX3 name covers a family. The published models are DVP22EX300T and DVP22EX300R, DVP28EX300MT, and DVP36EX300T and DVP36EX300R. The numbers 22, 28 and 36 match the built-in I/O point count of each unit, and the model list marks the T and MT units as NPN output and the R units as relay output.

DVP-EX3 models and built-in I/O

Model Built-in I/O Output type
DVP22EX300T 22 points: 12 DI + 8 DO + 2 AI NPN output
DVP22EX300R 22 points: 12 DI + 8 DO + 2 AI Relay output
DVP28EX300MT 28 points: 4 differential DI + 8 DI + 4 differential DO + 8 DO + 2 AI + 2 AO NPN output
DVP36EX300T 36 points: 16 DI + 16 DO + 2 AI + 2 AO NPN output
DVP36EX300R 36 points: 16 DI + 16 DO + 2 AI + 2 AO Relay output

The DVP28EX300MT is the only model with differential inputs and outputs, which makes it the one to consider when you need pulse-type signals rather than only standard digital points. The 22-point models carry two analog inputs and no analog outputs, while the 28- and 36-point models add two analog outputs.

How the DVP-EX3 works

The controller runs a cyclic scan on the AS-core processor, which gives the 25 ns basic instruction time quoted by the manufacturer and a 64K-step program memory. Programs are written in DIADesigner, which accepts the instruction set of the AS series, so engineers who already use the AS family can reuse their habits and part of their code.

Two Ethernet ports can act as a switch, which allows daisy-chaining of a small machine network without an extra switch. The CAN port runs CANopen DS301 and can control up to 64 slaves, while the Delta mode controls up to 8 Delta servos and 8 Delta motor drives. EtherNet/IP support lets the unit join a wider plant network. A Micro SD interface is available for program or data storage.

Where the DVP-EX3 fits among Delta controllers

The DVP-EX3 suits stand-alone machines and small cells where a compact controller with analog capability is enough. Up to 8 special extension modules can be attached to reach 256 I/O points. When a project needs EtherCAT motion with many axes or integrated safety, the larger platform is the AX-5 series, for example the AX-5 CPU models and the AX-500SC00-0S safety CPU. For smaller or older installations that still run second-generation DVP controllers, the DVP-EX3 is positioned as an upgrade with faster execution, larger program memory and more communication options.

Selection and ordering checklist for the DVP-EX3

  • Choose the I/O class (22, 28 or 36 points) from the count of digital and analog signals.
  • Choose transistor (T, MT) or relay (R) outputs according to the load type and switching frequency.
  • Check whether differential inputs and outputs are needed, which points to DVP28EX300MT.
  • Count analog outputs: the 22-point units have none.
  • List the extension modules required to stay within the 256 point and 8 module limits.
  • Confirm the supply voltage is within 100 to 240 VAC.

Installation and maintenance

Mount the unit on DIN rail inside a panel with enough ventilation, route the AC supply away from the analog and CAN cables, and use shielded twisted pair for the analog signals and the CAN bus. Terminate the CAN bus at both ends and set one node number per device. Back up the program before any firmware or program change, and keep a spare unit of the same model, because relay and transistor versions are not interchangeable without checking the load wiring.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

Delta lists high-speed cutting machines, bar feeders, food packaging and textile machines. In Oman and the GCC the DVP-EX3 is a practical fit for packaging and cutting machines, small processing skids and OEM equipment where analog signals (temperature, level or pressure from transmitters) are read directly by the PLC. Panels in coastal and desert sites should be sealed or air-conditioned against dust and humidity.

Information to send with an RFQ

  • Full model code, for example DVP28EX300MT, and quantity.
  • Digital and analog I/O counts and output type.
  • Extension modules or communication needs (CANopen, EtherNet/IP, RS-485).
  • Existing controller if this is a replacement.
  • Delivery location and date.

Documents and quotation

Send us the model code and the application, and we will confirm which documents are available and quote the unit that matches your I/O list.

About brand

Delta Electronics is a Taiwanese maker of power and automation products, founded in April 1971 by Bruce Cheng with 15 employees in a small factory in Sinjhuang, Taipei County. Its first products were TV deflection coils and electronic components; it later became a leading maker of switching power supplies and added drives, PLCs and HMIs for industrial automation. Delta is headquartered in Neihu, Taipei, and listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.

Seven Star LLC lists the Delta DVP04AD-S2 analog input module and the ESR-48/30D rectifier module, and sources Delta PLC modules and power parts for panel builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.

Delta PLC families and the DVP slim line

Delta's controller program runs from the DVP series through the modular AS series to the AH series. Inside the DVP series, the slim CPUs (among them DVP-SS2, SA2, SX2, SV2 and SE) take slim expansion modules on their right side. The DVP04AD-S2 is one of these: a four-channel analog input module for voltage or current signals, which the CPU reads with FROM and TO instructions.

Ordering Delta parts: what we need

For PLC modules, send the complete type from the side label, including the suffix, and the CPU model it will join. For a rectifier module, send the type, the DC output voltage and current, the AC input, and the model of the power shelf or system it plugs into.
