The Siemens SIMATIC PS407 (6ES7407-0DA02-0AA0) is a 4 A PS407 power supply module for SIMATIC S7-400 racks. It has a wide-range UC input for 120/230 V AC or DC. The module converts the supply into the 5 V DC and 24 V DC voltages for the S7-400 backplane bus, which power the CPU, interface modules and signal modules in the rack.
The PS407 takes one slot in the rack. It provides 20 ms mains buffering in line with the NAMUR recommendation and short-circuit protection on its outputs. An optional lithium backup battery keeps the contents of the CPU memory during supply failures. The PS407 4 A is used as the rack supply in S7-400 process and factory automation systems where the total 5 V load of the rack is within 4 A.

The Siemens data sheet defines this module by two backplane currents: up to 4 A on the 5 V DC rail and up to 0.5 A on the 24 V DC rail. Both figures have to cover the sum of the current drawn by the CPU and every module in the rack, so the 5 V and 24 V demand of the rack should be added up before this 4 A version is chosen. The 5 V output needs no minimum load, and both outputs are short-circuit protected.
The same unit runs from AC or DC supply at 120 V or 230 V nominal, so no variant selection is needed between AC and DC plant supplies within those ranges. Typical active power input is 52 W, of which about 20 W is dissipated in the module; that loss should be included in the cabinet heat calculation. The module takes one rack slot (25 mm wide).

The module is a protection class I device, so a protective earth conductor must be connected with the supply.
