Ador Tiginox 2209 ER2209 Duplex Stainless TIG Welding Rod
Overview
Ador Tiginox 2209 is a TIG filler rod for standard duplex stainless steel, manufactured by Ador Welding Limited and classified to AWS A/SFA 5.9 ER2209 and EN ISO 14343-A W 22 9 3 N L. It is an extra low carbon 22Cr/9Ni/3Mo/N alloy that deposits an austenitic-ferritic weld, and Ador describes the result as an excellent combination of high strength with resistance to chloride-induced SCC and pitting, usable at operating temperatures up to 200°C. The datasheet records CE approval. TIG rods of this grade are the standard choice for roots, small-bore lines and thin wall duplex tubing where precision matters more than deposition speed.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Ador Tiginox 2209 across Oman and the GCC, serving piping contractors, OEM skid builders and plant maintenance departments. The Ador product data sheet is attached for download so that welding inspectors and engineers have the classification and chemistry at hand during procedure review.
The Root Pass on Duplex Pipe
In general, the root bead of a duplex pipe weld is the most demanding part of the joint. It forms the inside surface exposed to the process fluid, it is diluted by base metal on both sides, and it is reheated by every following pass. Welders therefore use TIG with a controlled argon back purge, keeping oxygen in the purge low so the root stays bright and free of heavy heat tint. Filler addition rate also matters: adding enough rod keeps the nickel content of the root high enough to form austenite, while autogenous (no filler) TIG on duplex is generally avoided because it leads to high ferrite.
The typical bare wire analysis of the Ador Tiginox 2209 is 0.015 C, 1.5 Mn, 0.4 Si, 22.5 Cr, 8.7 Ni, 3.3 Mo and 0.15 N. That over-alloyed nickel level compared with 2205 base metal is what makes the rod suitable for producing balanced duplex weld metal under normal TIG conditions.
Post weld cleaning is a further general step on duplex joints. Heat tint on the outside and inside of the weld reduces local corrosion resistance, so many specifications require it to be removed by brushing with stainless-only tools, by pickling paste or by full pickling and passivation. Inspection plans for duplex piping commonly include ferrite measurement on the cap and root, and sometimes on a separate test coupon, to confirm that the procedure keeps the phase balance within the range set by the client. Tungsten electrode preparation and a clean torch gas lens also contribute to a stable arc and good gas coverage.
Engineering Design of the Ador Tiginox 2209
Rods are cut to 1000 mm lengths in 1.6 mm, 2.0 mm and 2.4 mm diameters. Ador packs them in 20 kg cartons containing four 5 kg plastic tubes, a format that protects the rods from dust and damage and makes it simple to issue one tube per welder. Polarity is DCEN, all positions are permitted, and shielding is pure argon at 10 to 15 litres per minute. The handling instruction is to keep the product dry during storage and use.
As-welded all weld metal must meet a minimum of 690 MPa ultimate tensile strength and 20 percent elongation, according to the datasheet. Those minimums correspond to the strength class of 2205 duplex, and they allow the Ador Tiginox 2209 to be used for full-penetration pressure welds as well as for roots followed by MIG, flux-cored or stick fill.

Industrial Applications
The application list printed by Ador covers 2205 and 2209 duplex stainless steels and similar grades, pipelines carrying chloride-bearing products and sour gases, cladding on carbon and low alloy steels, cast pumps, valve bodies and sea water handling equipment, chemical equipment, heat exchangers and offshore platforms. Across Oman this includes instrument and chemical injection tubing at wellsites, heat exchanger tube-to-tubesheet welds in refineries and fertilizer plants, and small-bore duplex piping in desalination and district cooling plants around Muscat and the Duqm Special Economic Zone.
Pump and valve workshops also rely on TIG for precise repairs to cast duplex parts, where heat must be kept local. Seven Star LLC supplies the Ador Tiginox 2209 for both new fabrication and repair; Ador also offers Miginox 2209 wire and Betanox 4462 electrodes in the same alloy family, which lets a contractor root with the Ador Tiginox 2209 and complete the joint by a faster process with matching chemistry. This approach is common on larger diameter lines where the root is critical but the fill volume is substantial.
