How the TM241CE24R runs the program and drives outputs
A logic controller scans its inputs, runs the application program in a cyclic task, and updates outputs each scan. The TM241CE24R has 14 discrete inputs; its output complement is listed in the datasheet as 6 relay; 4 transistor 4 fast output, giving 24 points on the base unit. Execution time per 1 K instructions is listed as 0.3 ms event and periodic task; 0.7 ms other instruction.
Output type decides what you can switch directly. Relay outputs on the TM241CE24R switch both AC and DC loads at the ratings above and are isolated, but they wear with switching cycles, so use interposing devices for rapidly cycling loads.
Where the TM241CE24R fits in a machine control system
The TM241CE24R is programmed with Schneider Electric machine-automation software and communicates over Ethernet using the services listed in the datasheet (FDR; DHCP server via TM4 Ethernet switch network module; DHCP client embedded Ethernet port; SMS notifications; Updating firmware; SNMP client/server; Programming; NGVL; Monitoring; IEC VAR ACCESS). Protocols listed for the integrated ports: Non isolated serial link Modbus master/slave.
Expansion uses TM3 modules such as TM3DI8, TM3DQ16T and TM3AI4: the datasheet lists the maximum number of expansion modules as 7 (local I/O-Architecture) and 14 (remote I/O-Architecture). Other base units in the family include TM221CE24R, TM221CE40T, which differ by I/O count, output type and performance.
Selection and ordering checklist for the TM241CE24R
- Count required inputs and outputs and compare with 24 on the TM241CE24R, leaving spare points.
- Output type: R means relay; match the load voltage and switching frequency.
- Supply: 100 to 240 V AC with limits 85 to 264 V.
- Expansion: list the TM3 modules and check the maximum count and 5 V and 24 V expansion-bus current budget.
- Communication: confirm the protocols and number of connections needed against the datasheet.
- Software and cables: confirm the programming software version and cable needed for commissioning.
Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the TM241CE24R
Mount the unit on a 35 mm rail, keep the clearances for ventilation and observe the mounting orientation limit listed in the datasheet. The TM241CE24R measures 150 mm (W) x 90 mm (H) x 95 mm (D) and weighs 0.53 kg. Segregate input wiring from outputs and power cabling, use shielded cable where the datasheet requires it, and ground the shield at one end.
After first power-up, download the project, test each I/O point and save a backup of the final application. Back up a controller project after every change, and keep an SD card or file copy offline. The real-time clock backup battery is a periodic maintenance item; plan its replacement according to the datasheet backup time.
Typical applications of the TM241CE24R in Oman and the GCC
Controllers like the TM241CE24R run packaged pumping skids, compressors, packaging lines, HVAC plant, water treatment and small process equipment across Oman and the GCC. For hot, dusty sites the controller belongs inside a ventilated or air-conditioned panel and not outside its stated temperature range.

About brand
Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

Milestones
- 1836: The Schneider brothers acquire the Le Creusot works; the business grows in steel, locomotives and heavy engineering.
- 1975: First investment in Merlin Gerin, a French maker of electrical distribution equipment.
- 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
- 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
- 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
- 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.
Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control
Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.
Where Schneider Electric products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.
APC by Schneider Electric: UPS and critical power
