The JUMO CEROS S01 M (type 405101) is a digital pressure measuring cell for liquid and gaseous media. Unlike a conventional bare sensor it is an active component with integrated signal processing, supplying a temperature-compensated and calibrated output. The piezoresistive sensing element is hermetically encapsulated behind a stainless steel membrane and filled with FDA-compliant silicone oil. Measuring ranges run from 100 mbar up to 100 bar, as relative or absolute pressure, and the cell works across a medium temperature of -40 to +125 °C. Its compact form lets manufacturers build it into pressure transmitters, level probes, valve blocks and pumps, and a front-flush installation is possible for hygienic uses. The cell is read over an I²C interface, or as a 0.5 to 4.5 V ratiometric voltage.

Order code and configuration

The code is 405101 / extension – range – measuring cell – process connection – output / electrical connection / extra codes. Extension 000 is standard. Range codes cover 414 to 507, for example 464 for 0 to 100 bar relative or 459 for 0 to 10 bar. The measuring cell code selects the weld-in version (210) or a cell with an EPDM (211), FPM (212) or VMQ (213) O-ring. Process connections are 502 (G 1/4), 504 (G 1/2), 511 (1/4-18 NPT) and 521 (G 1/4, DIN 3852-11). Output 412 is the voltage version and 525 the I²C version. The electrical connection is a pin version (05), stranded wires (24) or a JST connector (39). Weld-in cells in the lowest ranges can only be ordered with a process connection. The datasheet example is 405101/000-464-210-000-525-39/624.

Installation, approvals and fit

Never put tension on the membrane when fitting the cell, avoid damaging it and lubricate the O-rings. The cell may be installed front-flush, using a 16 x 1.8 mm O-ring and a circlip, or recessed. The cell is a component rather than an end device, so it does not meet the requirements for equipment with a safety function under the Pressure Equipment Directive, and the manufacturer of the finished product must carry out end-product testing, a declaration of conformity and CE marking. The setup program shows live values and offers a zero-point correction, for example after installation, together with optional signal limitation and limit values.

Choose this cell when you build or repair your own instruments: pressure transmitters, submersible level probes, compressor and hydraulic valve blocks, dosing pumps and compact process devices. The digital signature gives traceability down to the sensor, the I²C bus lets a microcontroller read pressure and temperature together, and the ratiometric voltage output works directly with a 5 V analog-to-digital converter. An enquiry should list the range and pressure type, the output, the cell and sealing version, the process connection, the electrical connection and any extra code. Mention the annual volume and the intended end product, because the cell is a component that the device manufacturer must test and declare. The datasheet offers a 3.1 material certificate, oil and grease free cleaning and a test report as extra codes.

Plan the electrical interface early: the voltage version needs a load of at least 5 kilohms and a stable 5 V reference because the output is ratiometric, while the I²C version needs pull-up resistors between 1 and 10 kilohms. The pin, wire and JST connector variants have different temperature limits, which matters near hot media.

Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.
