Hydac SB330TR-32A1/112S-210A Bladder Accumulator, 32 L

Description

A tall 32 litre top-repairable accumulator for larger energy storage duties

The Hydac SB330TR-32A1/112S-210A (HYDAC part number 2079388) is the 10 gallon (32 litre) size of the top-repairable SB330. The effective gas volume is 9.00 gallons (2080 cubic inches), so it stores a much larger volume of oil than the 10 litre units, and it is 1397 mm (55 inches) long with the same 231 mm diameter. It is designed for 210 bar (3000 psi), with the USA/ASME country designation in the code.

The top-repairable design lets the bladder be swapped from the gas end, which matters on a unit this long and heavy: it weighs 102 kg (226 lb).

Choosing a large accumulator

SB 330 TR – 32 A 1 / 112 S – 210 A: SB330 is the 3000 psi bladder series, TR the top-repairable design, 32 the size in litres, A a threaded connection, 1 the gas valve, 112 the standard material combination for mineral oil, S the USA country code, 210 the pressure in bar and A the BSPP port. The effective volume you can draw is only a fraction of the shell volume, set by your precharge, minimum and maximum pressures, so size it with the HYDAC calculation tools rather than by shell size alone.

Handling and mounting

At 1.4 metres long and over 100 kg, the unit needs a proper support structure, clamps and a lifting plan. The datasheet recommends mounting it vertically with the fluid port down where possible, and fitting mounting components that limit vibration stress on the port. Provide a safety and shut-off block, and check the structure and floor loading for the filled weight. For a plant in Oman, ask which pressure equipment approval your authority or client needs, because this code carries the USA/ASME designation.

Use nitrogen only for the precharge and bring the gas pressure up slowly, using a charging and gauging unit and trained staff. Where the unit sits beside a pump, an extra check valve and a relief valve protect against surges, and a pressure gauge on the fluid side helps with the routine precharge check.

Allow generous headroom above the unit for the top-repair work, because a bladder of this length needs space to be withdrawn from the shell. Mount the supports so that the load is carried by the shell, and not by the fluid port thread, which is the usual weak point on a long vertical accumulator.

How the SB330TR-32A1/112S-210A works

The SB330TR-32A1/112S-210A stores hydraulic energy by compressing nitrogen inside a closed elastomer bladder. The bladder sits inside the forged steel shell and separates the gas side completely from the oil side. It is precharged with nitrogen through the gas valve to a pressure below the minimum system pressure. When system pressure rises, oil enters through the fluid port and compresses the bladder; when the pressure falls, the gas expands and pushes the stored oil back into the circuit. A mechanically actuated fluid poppet valve at the bottom of the shell closes when all usable oil has been expelled, so the bladder cannot be extruded into the fluid port.

HYDAC lists the main functions of bladder accumulators as energy storage, shock absorption, pulsation damping, leakage loss compensation and volume compensation. Bladder units also give a quick response to pressure shocks in sizes much larger than diaphragm accumulators, which is why a 32 litre bladder unit is a common choice where a large volume must be delivered quickly.

SB330 TR size range

The datasheet lists the top-repairable SB 330 TR in five sizes with the same 231 mm shell diameter. Dimensions are for general information only.

Size Effective gas volume Weight Length A
10 566 in³ (2.45 gal) 94 lb (43 kg) 21.3 in (540 mm)
20 1125 in³ (4.87 gal) 140 lb (63 kg) 34.8 in (883 mm)
32 2080 in³ (9.00 gal) 226 lb (102 kg) 55.0 in (1397 mm)
42 2320 in³ (10.04 gal) 270 lb (123 kg) 60.2 in (1530 mm)
54 3205 in³ (13.87 gal) 330 lb (150 kg) 78.6 in (1997 mm)

The maximum recommended discharge flow for vertically mounted units in this range is 240 gpm. A split-flange version is also listed for the SB330 sizes 10 to 54, using an SAE 2″ 3000 psi Code 61 flange.

SB330TR-32A1/112S-210A selection & ordering guide

  • Bladder compound: NBR (Buna N) is standard for mineral oil. HYDAC also lists LT-NBR and ELT-NBR for low temperatures, ECO for water and water-glycol, IIR for phosphate esters and FPM for chlorinated hydrocarbons. Always check the fluid manufacturer’s recommendation.
  • Fluid port: A = BSPP (ISO 228) radial seal; other codes cover metric, SAE, NPT and flanged connections.
  • Country of installation: S = USA; S1 = Canada CRN, U = PED/CE, W1 = ABS and W3 = DNV are alternatives.
  • Corrosion protection: coated shells and stainless steel parts are available for aggressive fluids or environments.
  • Precharge: a three-digit precharge in bar can be added to the code if the unit is to be supplied precharged.

Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code for your fluid, approval and connection.

Installation & maintenance

  • For energy storage, mount vertically with the fluid port at the bottom. Horizontal or angled mounting reduces the usable volume.
  • Use HYDAC clamps and brackets to minimise failure caused by vibration.
  • Discharge the oil side completely and isolate the unit before checking the precharge or opening the gas end.
  • Check the nitrogen precharge regularly; a falling precharge reduces the usable volume and stresses the bladder.
  • Follow local pressure vessel regulations for inspection and recertification.

Typical applications in Oman & the GCC

HYDAC lists oil field and offshore, machine tools, mining, mobile and construction equipment among the applications of its bladder accumulators. In Oman and the GCC a 32 litre unit typically serves as a central energy store on hydraulic power units, on emergency valve actuation systems in oil and gas plants, and on presses, cranes and port equipment that need a large volume of oil at short notice.

About brand

HYDAC is the German hydraulics group known for hydraulic filters, accumulators and electronic pressure and temperature sensors. It was founded in 1963 in Sulzbach, Saarland, by Werner Dieter and Otmar Schön. The name comes from "hydraulic accumulator", the first product it made under licence. It is still a family company headquartered in Sulzbach.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list HYDAC filters, filter elements, accumulators, pressure transmitters and switches, and supply them for hydraulic power units, turbines, compressors and mobile machines in Oman and the GCC.

Most hydraulic failures start with dirty or wet oil. That is why a system has filters at several points: a pressure filter in front of sensitive valves, a return filter that cleans what comes back to the tank, and a breather that stops dust and humidity entering as the oil level moves. The filter element's rating (for example 3, 10 or 25 µm) and its material decide what cleanliness class the oil reaches. On HYDAC sensors, the type code also sets the pressure range, the output and the connector. For example, HDA 4445-A-400-000 is a 4-20 mA transmitter for 0-400 bar.

Where HYDAC products are used

In Oman and the GCC, HYDAC filters, accumulators and sensors are used on turbine and compressor lube oil systems, hydraulic power units, offshore and marine hydraulics, cranes, presses, steel and aluminium plants, and construction and mobile machines.
