Overview

The Duplomatic DS5 is a direct-acting solenoid operated directional control valve built on the ISO 4401-05 mounting surface, the size 05 (CETOP 05) pattern that sits one step above the common size 03 valves. Duplomatic rates it for a maximum operating pressure of 320 bar on P, A and B and a maximum flow of 150 l/min on DC versions (120 l/min on AC). This extra capacity lets the Duplomatic DS5 switch larger cylinders and hydraulic motors directly from a solenoid, without the cost and complexity of a two-stage pilot-operated valve.

Operating Principle

The Duplomatic DS5 directs flow between pressure, tank and two work ports by moving a precision spool inside the valve body. Each end of the spool is pushed by a wet armature solenoid; the armature moves immersed in oil within a tube screwed into the body, so it runs without wear and is cooled by oil from the return line. When a solenoid is released, springs centre the spool or return it to its rest position, depending on the spool type, and mechanical retention holds the RK version in its last switched position.

Available spool families for the Duplomatic DS5 are S* (two solenoids, three positions, spring centred), SA* and SB* (one solenoid, two positions, spring centred), TA and TB (one solenoid, two external positions, return spring) and RK (two solenoids, two positions, mechanical detent). Because the DS5 shifts a heavier spool than size 03 valves, its catalogue switching times are longer on DC: 100 to 150 ms when energized and 20 to 50 ms when de-energized, compared with 15 to 30 ms and 20 to 50 ms on AC, measured to ISO 6403 at 36 cSt and 50 °C. For applications where pressure shocks must be limited, Duplomatic offers fixed and adjustable soft-shifting versions on DC.

Engineering Design of the Duplomatic DS5

The Duplomatic DS5 body is cast from high-strength iron with wide internal passages for low pressure drop. The standard tank port limit is 210 bar on DC and 140 bar on AC; a DC version with a Y external subplate drain port raises the T port rating to 320 bar, which is useful when several valves share a return line carrying back pressure. The valve is mounted on a lapped surface with screws in M6x10 threaded holes at a tightening torque of 8 Nm (class 8.8). Configurations with centring or return springs can be mounted in any position, while RK detent valves must be installed with the longitudinal axis horizontal.

Solenoid power is significantly higher than on size 03. DC coils, available from 12 to 220 V, each consume about 48 W, and AC coils draw roughly 572 to 644 VA at inrush and 95 to 110 VA holding, for example 644 VA and 105 VA for the A230 coil at 230 V 50 Hz. The coils have class H insulation with class F impregnation, a 100% duty cycle and up to 15,000 operations per hour. Electrical connection is via K1 EN 175301-803 connectors (IP65) or, on 12 and 24 V DC, K7 Deutsch DT04-2P plugs rated IP65/IP67/IP69 and IP69K at the connector. A zinc-nickel finish, option /W7 for DC valves, provides salt spray resistance up to 240 hours.
