Hydac SB330TR-10A1/112S1-210A Bladder Accumulator, 10 L

Description

A 10 litre top-repairable bladder accumulator for 210 bar systems

The Hydac SB330TR-10A1/112S1-210A (HYDAC part number 2089640) is a bladder accumulator for hydraulic energy storage, shock absorption and pulsation damping. The TR in the series name means top repairable: the bladder can be replaced from the gas end while the shell stays connected to the machine pipework, which saves breaking the fluid connection on a fixed installation. The nominal size is 10 litres, which is 2.5 US gallons, with an effective gas volume of 566 cubic inches.

The fluid port is a G2 BSPP thread with a radial seal design, the shell and port are carbon steel, and the bladder is NBR for mineral oil service. In the catalogue code the S1 country designation marks this version as registered in Canada (CRN).

Reading the model code

SB 330 TR – 10 A 1 / 112 S1 – 210 A: SB330 is the 3000 psi bladder series; TR is the top-repairable design; 10 is the size in litres; A is a threaded line connection; 1 the standard gas valve; 112 the standard material combination for mineral oil service; S1 the Canadian CRN registration; 210 the maximum allowable working pressure in bar; and the final A the BSPP (ISO 228) fluid port. A precharge pressure in bar, three digits, is added when the unit is ordered precharged. Other country codes in the datasheet include U for PED/CE, W1 for ABS and W3 for DNV type approval.

Selection and regulatory notes

An accumulator is a pressure vessel, so the pressure-equipment approval has to match the country of installation. The code on this page is the CRN version listed in the catalogue; for a plant in Oman specify the approval you need and ask for the corresponding code before ordering. Mount it vertically with the fluid port down for energy storage, and fit a safety block and relief protection to the circuit. Precharge with nitrogen only, using the HYDAC charging and gauging unit, and have the work done by trained staff. The datasheet attached is the HYDAC USA bladder accumulator catalogue section (ACU1808).

Record the date of the last precharge check, because the gas pressure drops slowly with time and affects the stored volume. Use mounting clamps or brackets from the HYDAC accessory range to limit vibration stress on the port.

How the SB330TR-10A1/112S1-210A works

A bladder accumulator stores hydraulic energy by compressing nitrogen. Inside the forged steel shell of the SB330TR-10A1/112S1-210A sits a closed elastomer bladder that is filled with nitrogen through the gas valve on top. The gas side and the oil side are completely separated by the bladder. Before the system starts, the bladder is precharged to a pressure below the minimum working pressure, so it fills the shell. When system pressure rises above the precharge, oil flows into the shell through the fluid port and compresses the bladder; the stored volume is the difference in gas volume between the minimum and maximum working pressures. When system pressure falls, the compressed gas pushes the oil back into the circuit.

At the bottom of the shell a spring-loaded fluid poppet valve is fitted. When all usable oil has been expelled, the expanding bladder pushes the poppet closed, blocking the fluid port so that the bladder cannot be extruded into it. This simple mechanical protection is what allows bladder accumulators to respond very quickly while protecting the bladder.

Top-repairable design and dimensions

In the standard bottom-repairable SB330 the bladder is removed through the fluid end. In the TR (top repairable) design it is removed from the gas end, so the shell can stay piped to the machine during service. The datasheet lists these values for the SB 330 TR size 10:

Dimension Value
Nominal volume 10 L (2.5 gal)
Effective gas volume 566 in³ (2.45 gal)
Weight 94 lb (43 kg)
A (overall length) 21.3 in (540 mm)
B 3.1 in (80 mm)
C 1.6 in (40 mm)
ØD (shell) 9.1 in (231 mm)
ØE 3.0 in (76 mm)
Fluid thread J (BSPP version) 2 in
Max. recommended discharge flow, vertical 240 gpm

The same SB 330 TR design is listed in 20, 32, 42 and 54 litre sizes with the same diameter and longer shells. Dimensions are for general information; critical dimensions should be verified before piping.

SB330TR-10A1/112S1-210A selection & ordering guide

  • Bladder compound: NBR is standard for mineral oil, 5 to 180 °F. HYDAC also offers LT-NBR and ELT-NBR for low temperatures, ECO for water and water-glycol, IIR for phosphate esters and brake fluids, and FPM for chlorinated hydrocarbons. Always check the fluid manufacturer’s recommendation.
  • Maximum operating temperature of the standard accumulator design is 200 °F.
  • Fluid port connection: A = BSPP (ISO 228) radial seal design; B = metric; C = SAE; D = NPT; E to H = flanged SAE versions.
  • Country of installation: S1 = Canada (CRN registered); other codes are U = PED/CE, S = USA, W1 = ABS, W3 = DNV.
  • Precharge: a three-digit precharge pressure in bar can be added to the code when the unit is ordered precharged.

For corrosive fluids or environments, HYDAC offers protective coatings and stainless steel wetted parts. Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code for your approval requirements.

Installation & maintenance

  • Mount the accumulator vertically with the fluid port at the bottom for energy storage. Horizontal or angled mounting is possible for pulsation damping or volume compensation, but reduces the usable volume.
  • HYDAC accumulators are screwed directly onto the system; use HYDAC mounting clamps and brackets to minimise the risk of failure from vibration.
  • Fit a safety and shut-off block so the accumulator can be isolated, protected against overpressure and discharged before maintenance.
  • Precharge only with nitrogen, never with oxygen or air, and use a proper charging and gauging unit. Check the precharge pressure at regular intervals with the oil side discharged.
  • Accumulator work must be carried out by trained personnel, and local pressure vessel regulations must be followed.

Typical applications in Oman & the GCC

HYDAC lists energy storage, shock absorption, pulsation damping, leakage loss compensation and volume compensation as typical bladder accumulator duties, with applications in oil field and offshore equipment, machine tools, mining, mobile and construction machinery. In Oman and the GCC a 10 litre top-repairable unit is common on press and injection moulding hydraulics, on emergency actuation of valves in oil and gas facilities, and on crane and port equipment hydraulics where the bladder must be serviced without disturbing the pipework.

About brand

HYDAC is the German hydraulics group known for hydraulic filters, accumulators and electronic pressure and temperature sensors. It was founded in 1963 in Sulzbach, Saarland, by Werner Dieter and Otmar Schön. The name comes from "hydraulic accumulator", the first product it made under licence. It is still a family company headquartered in Sulzbach.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list HYDAC filters, filter elements, accumulators, pressure transmitters and switches, and supply them for hydraulic power units, turbines, compressors and mobile machines in Oman and the GCC.

Most hydraulic failures start with dirty or wet oil. That is why a system has filters at several points: a pressure filter in front of sensitive valves, a return filter that cleans what comes back to the tank, and a breather that stops dust and humidity entering as the oil level moves. The filter element's rating (for example 3, 10 or 25 µm) and its material decide what cleanliness class the oil reaches. On HYDAC sensors, the type code also sets the pressure range, the output and the connector. For example, HDA 4445-A-400-000 is a 4-20 mA transmitter for 0-400 bar.

Where HYDAC products are used

In Oman and the GCC, HYDAC filters, accumulators and sensors are used on turbine and compressor lube oil systems, hydraulic power units, offshore and marine hydraulics, cranes, presses, steel and aluminium plants, and construction and mobile machines.
