Where the SB flow area is chosen

Choose the SB when the application needs high flow with manual adjustment: liquid transfer and balancing lines, oil return, defrost-gas and by-pass lines of ammonia and CO2 plants. For fine metering of small flows the smaller SA version is more suitable.

The valve is angleway, so the flow turns 90 degrees through the body. The graduated spindle indicates the opening, and the setting can be locked by recording the number of turns on the commissioning sheet.

Checks before ordering

Confirm the connection (socket weld here; butt weld and stainless variants exist as other codes), pipe schedule and the refrigerant. The data sheet gives the Kv per number of turns and the weights of all sizes between 10 and 65 mm.

Install with the arrow in flow direction and follow the SVL Flexline welding instructions. Spare parts exist for the platform, so cone, seal and bonnet can be replaced without cutting the line.

When commissioning, count and record the turns from closed for each duty setting; a regulating valve left at an unrecorded position is a common reason for a plant that no longer balances after maintenance.

Other types and sizes from the same Danfoss family that appear in the Danfoss store listing include REG-SB SS 15 (148B4937), REG-SB SS 25 (148B4946), REG-SB SS 10 (148B5018), REG-SB 10 (148B5103), REG-SB 15 (148B5203), REG-SB 20 (148B5303), REG-SB SS 20 (148B5389), REG-SB 25 (148B5403). These are listed for orientation only; each has its own datasheet values, so check size, connection and version before ordering.

About brand

Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Danfoss company profile

Milestones

  • 1932–1933: First expansion valve; the company is founded in Nordborg.
  • 1939: 26 employees. By the 10th anniversary in 1943 the company has 179.
  • 1950s: Rapid growth turns Nordborg into a Danfoss town with housing and schools for its workforce.
  • 1968: Danfoss launches its VLT frequency converter, one of the first mass-produced AC drives.
  • 2014: Acquisition of the Finnish drives maker Vacon, now the VACON brand.
  • 2021: Acquisition of Eaton's hydraulics business.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.

Where Danfoss products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.

Ordering Danfoss products: what we need

Send the Danfoss code number from the label (for example 032U7115 or 131B0149) or the full drive type code (FC-302P3K0T5...). For drives, add the motor power, supply voltage and any fieldbus option. For valves, add the size, connection, medium and coil voltage. For pressure switches and transmitters, add the range, output and pressure connection.
