ABB CP-E 24/2.5 Power Supply 24 V DC 2.5 A 60 W

Description

CP-E 24/2.5: a slim 60 W 24 V DC supply for small control panels

CP-E 24/2.5 is a primary switch-mode power supply from ABB’s CP-E range, delivering 24 V DC at 2.5 A (60 W) from a single-phase supply of 85 to 264 V AC or 90 to 375 V DC. At 40.5 mm wide and 0.331 kg it is among the smallest units in the range, suited to PLC racks, small relay banks and sensor supplies.

ABB states that all CP-E supplies can operate up to +70 C ambient, and this model is specified from -40 C. The output is open-circuit, overload and short-circuit proof, and an OUTPUT OK LED and a transistor DC OK output report the status.

Input, output and protection behaviour

The wide-range input means no voltage selection is needed worldwide. Hold-up time is at least 30 ms at 230 V AC and 20 ms at 115 V AC. Inrush is limited to 60 A at 230 V, so the upstream breaker must tolerate it; the internal fuse is 2 A slow-acting. There is no power factor correction in this model.

The output can be trimmed between 24 and 28 V DC to compensate for voltage drop on long runs. Output current is 2.5 A to 60 C ambient, and derating is 2.5 percent per degree from 60 to 70 C. At 89 percent typical efficiency the unit dissipates about 8.8 W.

Sizing and redundancy

Add up the 24 V DC loads at their maximum current, including contactor or relay coil inrush, and keep a margin of 20 to 30 percent. For N+1 redundancy, ABB lists the CP-RUD redundancy unit (order code 1SVR423418R9000) in the data sheet accessories, and series connection is permitted to raise the voltage.

Capacitive loads up to 7000 uF can be started. Mount the device horizontally with 25 mm space around it.

Documents and quotation

The linked file is ABB CP-E 24/2.5 power supply data sheet 2CDC114045D0201. Seven Star LLC supplies the CP-E 24/2.5 on request from Muscat; availability and lead time are given in the quotation. More electrical and power products are in the Power Modules category, and the ABB CR-M024DC4L interface relay is a typical 24 V DC load.

Confirm before ordering: mains input range at site, the total 24 V DC load including inrush, ambient temperature in the cabinet and whether a redundancy unit is wanted.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

ABB company profile

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.

Ordering ABB products: what we need

Send the full type code from the nameplate (for example ACS580-01-046A-4 or 266DSH...) and, for spare parts, the ABB ID number (such as 3BSE008508R1 or 1SBL176001R3010). For drives, add the motor power and current and any option codes (+...). For instruments, send the complete order code, which sets range, materials and approvals. Baldor motors are listed on their own brand page.
