Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 Power Supply, 24 V DC 10 A

Description

Overview

The Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 (item number 2904601) is a primary-switched QUINT POWER supply with a single-phase input and a regulated 24 V DC output rated at 10 A. It belongs to the fourth generation of the QUINT family and combines a selectable output characteristic curve, SFB (Selective Fuse Breaking) Technology and an NFC interface for configuration. The Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 accepts 100 to 240 V AC as well as 110 to 250 V DC on its input, and it delivers 240 W continuously with static and dynamic boost reserves for demanding loads.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 to panel builders, EPC contractors and maintenance teams in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC. From our office in Muscat, we help customers select the correct QUINT POWER rating for control cabinets in oil and gas, power, water and process plants.

How the Power Supply Works

As general engineering background, a primary-switched power supply rectifies the incoming mains voltage, switches it at high frequency through a compact transformer and then rectifies and filters the result into a stable DC output. According to the Phoenix Contact data sheet, the Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 uses several converter stages: a PFC stage switching between 35 and 700 kHz, a main converter stage between 50 and 245 kHz and an auxiliary stage around 90 to 110 kHz. The power factor is 0.94, and the typical efficiency is 92.5 % at 120 V AC and 93.4 % at 230 V AC, which keeps cabinet heat low.

The output voltage of the Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 can be set between 24 and 29.5 V DC with constant capacity. Mains buffering time is typically 42 ms at 120 V AC and 44 ms at 230 V AC, so short supply dips are bridged without the load seeing an interruption. The input is protected by an internal 8 A slow-blow fuse and a transient surge protection circuit using a varistor and a gas-filled surge arrester.

Boost Reserves and Selective Fuse Breaking

A key reason engineers choose this supply is its power reserve. The nominal output current of the Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 is 10 A, the Static Boost delivers 12.5 A continuously, and the Dynamic Boost provides 20 A for 5 seconds. For selective tripping of downstream protection, SFB Technology supplies up to 60 A for 15 ms, enough to trip standard miniature circuit breakers quickly while the other loads on the same supply continue to run. The data sheet lists magnetic circuit breaker tripping for characteristics A1 to A6, B2 to B6, C1 to C3 and Z1 to Z6.

The output characteristic of the Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 is selectable between U/I Advanced, Smart HICCUP and FUSE MODE. As a general guide, U/I mode suits loads with high inrush such as motors and capacitive inputs, HICCUP limits thermal stress during a sustained short circuit, and FUSE MODE switches the output off after a defined overload. Because the output is short-circuit-proof and no-load proof, the Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 is robust in daily operation.

Monitoring and Signalling

Preventive function monitoring is built into the Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10. A configurable digital output Out 1 (24 V DC, 20 mA), an analog output Out 2 (4 to 20 mA) and a floating signal relay 13/14 rated 24 V DC 1 A or 30 V AC/DC 0.5 A report the device status to a PLC. LEDs indicate output power above 50, 75 and 100 % and show whether the output voltage is above or below 0.9 times the set value. The Rem control input switches the output on or off and allows a SLEEP MODE in which power dissipation stays below 3 W. Signal options of the Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 include output current, output voltage, output power, input voltage OK, operating hours, early warning of high temperatures and active OVP limitation.

Applications in Oman and the GCC

The Phoenix Contact QUINT4-PS/1AC/24DC/10 is a common choice for 24 V DC control voltage in PLC and DCS cabinets, marshalling panels, RTU enclosures and MCC control sections. In the oil and gas fields of Oman, at power stations, desalination plants and water pumping stations, a reliable 24 V DC bus feeds controllers, I/O cards, transmitters and solenoid valves. The DNV GL, PRS, BV, LR and ABS shipbuilding approvals and the UL ANSI/ISA-12.12.01 Class I, Division 2 listing listed in the data sheet also make it relevant for marine and hazardous-area cabinet installations, always within the conditions defined by the certificates.

Seven Star LLC also supplies the earlier generation Phoenix Contact QUINT-PS/1AC/24DC/10 power supply for like-for-like replacement, the Phoenix Contact TTC-6-2X1-24DC-UT surge protector for signal lines, and alternatives such as the Weidmuller PRO MAX3 240W three-phase power supply when a three-phase input is preferred.

Ordering Phoenix Contact components: what we need

Phoenix Contact items are ordered by a seven-digit order number together with the type designation, both printed on the side of the module. Send both, plus the quantity. If the number is unreadable, send the type text and a photo. For power supplies, state input voltage, output current and whether the unit runs in parallel or with a redundancy module. For buyers in the GCC replacing an older unit, we check the manufacturer's documentation for the listed successor type.
