Mean Well NDR-120-24 DIN Rail Power Supply

Description

Slim 120 W DIN rail supply for control cabinets

The Mean Well NDR-120-24 converts a single-phase mains or DC input into a regulated 24 V DC output rated at 5 A (120 W). It belongs to the NDR-120 series, which Mean Well describes as an economical slim DIN rail power supply series with a metal housing and a body only 40 mm wide, so it takes little room on a crowded mounting rail.

The series accepts the full range from 90 to 264 VAC (127 to 370 VDC also possible by connecting the DC input to the AC/L and AC/N terminals) and conforms to EN 61000-3-2 for harmonic current. At 24 V the typical efficiency is 88%, and the unit runs on free-air convection with no fan. If the load exceeds the rating, the output limits its current and recovers by itself when the overload is removed.

Where the NDR-120-24 fits

A 5 A, 24 V rail is typical for a compact PLC panel: a controller, a handful of I/O cards, relays, solenoid valve coils and a few sensors. Mean Well lists industrial control systems, semiconductor fabrication equipment, factory automation and electro-mechanical apparatus as target applications. Add up the continuous current of every load, then keep some margin; the 24 V rating is 5 A and the output current limit starts between 105% and 130% of rated power, so a supply sized at 70 to 80% load runs cooler and lasts longer.

Mounting and wiring notes

The supply clips onto TS-35/7.5 or TS-35/15 rail. Mean Well recommends clearances of 40 mm above, 20 mm below and 5 mm on each side when the unit is loaded permanently at full power, and 15 mm if the neighbouring device is a heat source. The datasheet also gives derating for low input voltage and for altitude above 2000 m. Output voltage is set with the front potentiometer between 24 and 28 V, and the unit has a green terminal block at the top for the DC output and one at the bottom for the AC input. Keep a spare supply for critical lines: the 24 V rail powers every field device in the panel, so a failure stops production.

About brand

Mean Well is a Taiwanese manufacturer of standard power supplies, founded in 1982 and headquartered in New Taipei City. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Mean Well DIN rail, enclosed and DC-DC power supplies for control panels, automation equipment and electronics.

Mean Well power supply families

The catalogue covers DIN rail power supplies from 15 W to several hundred watts in single-phase and three-phase versions, enclosed chassis supplies with fan or convection cooling, medical-standard supplies, DIN rail DC-DC converters and many other formats. Each series has a datasheet that lists all output voltages, derating curves and approvals. The standard catalogue format suits machine builders, panel builders and maintenance teams that need a documented, replaceable supply rather than a custom design.

Frequently Asked Questions

What output does the NDR-120-24 provide?
It delivers 24 V DC at up to 5 A, which is 120 W, with a trim range of 24 to 28 V.
Can it run from a DC supply?
Yes. The datasheet allows 127 to 370 VDC when the DC source is connected to the AC/L(+) and AC/N(-) terminals.
Does it need a fan?
No. Cooling is by free air convection; observe the mounting clearances and the derating curve.
How wide is it?
The housing is 40 mm wide, 125.2 mm high and 113.5 mm deep.
How does it handle an overload?
It limits current between 105% and 130% of rated power and recovers automatically after the overload is removed.
