Böhler FOX CEL Mo E7010-A1 Cellulosic Pipeline Electrode

Description

Molybdenum-alloyed cellulosic electrode for higher-strength line pipe

The Böhler FOX CEL Mo is a molybdenum-alloyed, cellulose-coated stick electrode classified E7010-A1 under AWS A5.5 and E 42 3 Mo C 2 5 under EN ISO 2560-A. Böhler describes it for vertical-down welding of high-strength, large-diameter pipelines and calls it highly economical compared with conventional vertical-up welding. It is recommended especially for hot passes, fill passes and cover layers, and the data sheet credits it with excellent weld metal toughness, an intensive arc and deep penetration for sound joints with good X-ray quality.

Base materials and sour-gas use

Listed base materials include S235JR to S355J2G3, P235GH and P265GH, L210 to L415NB and L290 to L415MB line pipe, and API 5L grades A, B and X42 to X60, with the root pass possible up to L555MB and X80. Böhler states that FOX CEL Mo can be used in sour gas applications, tested to NACE TM-02-84, with SSC values available on request.

Choosing between CEL Mo and a plain E6010

The 0.5 % molybdenum gives a stronger deposit than a plain E6010 root electrode, so the usual role of the CEL Mo is hot pass, fill and cover on pipe grades where the procedure calls for an E7010-A1 deposit. A pipeline procedure often combines a root electrode with a higher-strength cellulosic for the later passes; check the procedure qualification record rather than choosing by class alone. Cellulosic electrodes are not redried, so store open packs as Böhler directs, and set current by diameter within the ranges above.

Böhler also publishes a separate data sheet for the FOX CEL 80-P and FOX CEL 70-P electrodes, which are intended for hot, filler and cover passes on other pipe grades; compare those if the line pipe grade or toughness requirement is different from the one listed here.

The data sheet also states that welding is done with a negative-polarity option for the root pass, so the same electrode can serve root work where the procedure allows it, though the electrode is mainly recommended for hot, fill and cover passes. Check the polarity requirement in the qualified procedure before welding.

About brand

Böhler Welding is the welding consumables brand of voestalpine Böhler Welding, part of the voestalpine group, with a portfolio that covers stick electrodes, TIG rods, solid wires, gas-shielded and self-shielded flux-cored wires and submerged-arc wires and fluxes. The company states more than 100 years of experience. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists Böhler Welding consumables and welding machines, including pipeline electrodes, and sources Böhler Welding consumables for fabricators and pipeline contractors.

Böhler Welding product groups

Beyond the consumables above, Böhler Welding lists strip cladding, wire arc additive manufacturing, metal powders, arc spraying cored wires, ceramic weld backing, brazing consumables and welding automation such as orbital welding and collaborative robots. The pipeline range includes cellulosic FOX CEL electrodes and basic vertical-down FOX BVD electrodes for large-diameter line pipe.

Ordering Böhler Welding consumables: what we need

Give the product name, the AWS or EN classification, the diameter and length, and the packaging you need. For pipeline electrodes also state the pipe grade, wall thickness, welding position and whether sour-service test values are required, because the Böhler Welding data sheets note that some test values are available on request.
