Gullco Magnetic MOGGY GM-03-300 Welding Carriage

Description

The Gullco Magnetic MOGGY GM-03-300 is a trackless welding carriage with a magnetic base. The magnets hold it to steel work so it can carry the gun or torch along seams that are out of the flat position, while still providing continuous or stitch welding control. A dual-torch magnetic version is sold as GM-03-400.

Magnetic base for out-of-position seams

The standard MOGGY relies on gravity and guide wheel pressure, so it is limited to flat and gently inclined work. With a magnetic base the GM-03-300 can follow joints on vertical or inclined steel surfaces such as hull blocks, tank shells and large weldments. It is guided by adjustable guide wheels that keep a set distance from the joint path, using the vertical member, a fence or template, or standard V-groove track.

The control is microprocessor based and keeps weld-on and weld-off distances repeatable at any travel speed. It has forward/stop/reverse, wire feed start on/off, a travel speed potentiometer, automatic wire feed start with delayed carriage start, and a wire feed connector with 15 ft control cable.

Choosing between MOGGY versions

Note that the magnetic carriage has a narrower speed range, topping out at 54 in/min against about 100 in/min for the standard GM-03-100. That suits the slower travel speeds typical of out-of-position welding. Where all joints are horizontal and accessible, the standard carriage is simpler; where seams run on vertical or inclined plate, the magnetic base avoids track and clamps. Gullco documents shipbuilding, offshore construction and steel fabrication as typical uses.

Shared MOGGY accessories include the GM-03-059 adjustable guide roller, GM-01-065 cutting torch holder and GM-01-070 dual gun holder.

Before use on a vertical seam, clean the travel path of spatter, paint build-up and mill scale so the magnets seat fully, and support the welding cable so its weight does not pull the carriage off line. Test speed and stitch settings on scrap plate before starting production welds. Where joints are long and uniform, a carriage like this gives consistent leg length and frees the welder to watch the pool rather than steer the gun.

About brand
Gullco International was formed in 1954 to serve the welding industry in North America and is a family-owned company with its world headquarters in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. It manufactures welding and cutting automation, plate beveling machines, ceramic weld backing and electrode ovens. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists the Gullco GK-R-300 KAT 300 welding carriage and sources Gullco equipment for fabricators.

Gullco product groups

The best-known line is the KAT® family of welding and cutting carriages, which run on rigid, semi-rigid or flexible track and can carry weld oscillators, auto-weld and indexing functions, plasma or flame cutting torches and seam trackers. Gullco also builds MOGGY® trackless carriages, KBM plate beveling machines, gantry systems, KATBAK® ceramic weld backing and electrode stabilising ovens.

Ordering Gullco equipment: what we need

Give the Gullco item number, which includes the model option, and the supply voltage. For carriages, list the track type and length, the mounting devices and the torch or gun holder you need. For KATBAK backing, state the joint type, plate thickness and tile profile.
