Polysoude P4 Portable Orbital TIG Welding Power Source
Overview
The Polysoude P4 is a portable smart welding station for orbital TIG welding of tubes, with or without filler wire. It sits between the compact high-purity P3 UHP and the three-phase P6 in the Polysoude line-up, and it is the unit most often taken out of the workshop and onto a construction site. The manufacturer highlights an extremely solid design with carrying handles, a rugged wireless touchscreen controller delivered with a carrying bag, and a single-phase auto-range input of 115 to 230 V that is compatible with field power generators. At 31 kg and 630 x 320 x 500 mm, the Polysoude P4 can be moved by two people up a pipe rack or into a plant room.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Polysoude P4 to contractors and maintenance departments in Oman and the GCC, together with closed and open orbital heads and accessories, with engineering support from Muscat. The station is a common choice for teams that weld instrument tubing, hydraulic lines, small-bore stainless process lines and utility piping in the field, where a three-phase supply is not always available.
Working Principle
Orbital TIG replaces the welder’s hand with a motorised head that clamps around the tube and rotates the tungsten electrode around the joint. The Polysoude P4 controls the arc current, the rotation of the torch and, when a wire-feeding head is used, the wire speed, all from a stored programme. Rotation and wire speed run under closed loop regulation, so the station measures what the motors actually do and corrects deviations. Current, rotation and wire feed can each be constant or pulsed, which in general welding practice is how heat input is balanced between the flat, vertical and overhead parts of the circumference.
A distinguishing point of the Polysoude P4 is its high precision range. Besides the standard 170 A range adjustable in 1 A steps, a 50 A range allows the welding current to be set and controlled in steps of one tenth of an ampere. For thin-wall tube, where a difference of a single ampere can change penetration noticeably, this fine resolution is what makes repeatable root fusion possible. Welding current precision is specified as plus or minus 1 A up to 100 A and plus or minus 1 percent above.
Engineering Design of the Polysoude P4
The power source uses forced ventilation for its electronics and includes a built-in closed loop water cooling system with a flow safety valve for the welding head and torch. Insulation class H and protection class IP 23 S are listed. Gas management covers the welding gas with a manually adjusted mass flowmeter and a second gas for backing purge, and the brochure mentions ultra-precise gas flow control shown on the graphical interface. Connectivity comprises four USB ports, one Ethernet port and a plug-in Wi-Fi antenna.
Programming is done through an intuitive multilingual graphical interface with a help menu, either on a 10.5 inch wireless touchscreen controller or on a 10.4 inch quick release wired touchscreen. Polysoude heads are recognised automatically, and an on-board OPC-UA server lets plants send start orders remotely, retrieve data and monitor welds in real time. A built-in printer or a USB stick archives welding procedures and records for documentation packages.

- Built-in closed loop water cooling with flow safety valve for head and torch.
- Non-volatile recording of arc voltage, current, electrode angular position, welding speed and wire speed.
- Compatible with all Polysoude heads with or without filler metal, including MU, MW, UHP and TS series heads.
Industrial Applications
On oil and gas facilities in Oman, much small-bore stainless tubing is installed late in a project and welded in place, often far from a fabrication shop. The Polysoude P4 suits that work because it runs from single-phase supply or a portable generator and carries its own torch cooling. Typical jobs include instrument and impulse lines, chemical injection tubing, lube and seal oil systems on rotating equipment, and hygienic lines in food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants. With wire-feeding heads it can also handle thicker walls where filler metal is required.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Polysoude P4, matching heads, tungsten electrodes and spares to clients in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm, Salalah and across the GCC, and can help match head size ranges to the tube diameters on your project. Workshops that also need conventional arc welding equipment can review the ESAB Rebel EMP 285ic and the Lincoln Electric Power Wave S500, and related orbital equipment is grouped in our orbital pipe welding systems category.
