VEGA VEGAKON 61 Conductive Level Switch Front-Flush

Description

A front-flush conductive switch for full or empty alarms in pipelines

The VEGAKON 61 is a conductive point level switch for conductive liquids, which VEGA recommends as a full or empty alarm in pipelines. When the probe tip is immersed, the electronics detect the product resistance by passing a low alternating current, and convert it into a switching signal; the switching point is defined by mounting position or probe length. The front-flush installation gives optimum cleaning, and VEGA states the probe is non-sensitive to buildup and operates maintenance-free. The sheet covers the transistor (NPN/PNP) version; a relay (DPDT) version is also available.

Conductive principle: limits and advantages

A conductive switch works only if the liquid conducts: VEGA specifies a minimum of 7.5 µS/cm, which covers tap water, process water, acids and most aqueous solutions but excludes demineralised water, oils, solvents and fuels. In return the sensor is robust, front-flush and cheap to clean, with no adjustment against the medium. The mode of the level switch is set on the electronics module, and a signal lamp shows the switching status of the instrument.

Mounting and ordering

The front-flush G1, 1 NPT and conus DN 25 connections suit pipelines and small vessels where a rod would obstruct flow or collect buildup. The VEGAKON family also includes probes with longer electrodes for adjusting the switching height, but the 61 itself is the flush type. State the medium’s conductivity, thread, voltage and output (PNP/NPN or relay) in your RFQ and confirm approvals with the manufacturer, since the sheet refers to the safety instructions for Ex-approved instruments.

Because the electrode is flush with the process connection, the switch is often fitted in horizontal pipes as a dry-run or flow-presence alarm, or high in a small tank as an overfill alarm. Verify that the liquid in your process stays above the conductivity limit at its lowest operating temperature, check the chemical resistance of the wetted parts against the medium, and have both confirmed by the manufacturer before ordering.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
