VEGA VEGAVIB 61 Vibrating Rod Level Switch for Bulk Solids

Description

A smooth vibrating rod that granules cannot jam

The VEGAVIB 61 is VEGA’s compact vibrating rod level switch for granular and coarse-grained bulk solids. A piezo drive excites a stainless-steel rod to resonance; when product covers the rod, the amplitude is damped and the electronics switch. VEGA points out that the smooth, cylindrical rod without corners or edges avoids jamming of the bulk solid and cleans easily, and that the sensor need not be oriented when mounted. It detects minimum or maximum level reliably, needs no setup with medium and, according to the product information, is virtually unaffected by product properties so it does not have to be adjusted.

Rod or fork for solids

VEGA’s selection text compares the two ranges: VEGAVIB rods have smaller installation dimensions, with threads from 1″, and no granules stick to the cylindrical rod; VEGAWAVE tuning forks are rugged and insensitive to buildup and detect lighter powders from 0.008 g/cm³. The VEGAVIB 61 detects solids from 0.02 g/cm³, so very light dusts below that density are a job for a VEGAWAVE instead. The standard housing, the PLICSLED status display module and plug connectors such as ISO 4400, M12 x 1, Harting HAN 7D/8D and Amphenol-Tuchel are listed accessories.

Mounting in silos

Install the compact rod through the silo wall at the height of the desired limit point. A weather protective cover can be snapped onto the housing against pollution and strong sun. For longer reach into a silo, move to the cable (VEGAVIB 62) or tube (VEGAVIB 63) version. Tell us the product, bulk density, temperature, thread or flange and output so we can offer the correct variant, and confirm SIL and Ex approvals with the manufacturer.

The product information also describes the electronics options in detail: a relay output for direct control of a feeder or alarm, a transistor output for PLC inputs, a contactless electronic switch for AC or DC loads, a two-wire version for connection to a signal conditioning instrument and a NAMUR version for intrinsically safe isolators. The sheet shows a switching delay of 0.5 s when covered and 1 s when uncovered, so brief splashes or falling product do not trigger the output.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
