Brand:

VEGA VEGABAR 29 Metallic Cell Pressure Transmitter to 1000 bar

Description

A hygienic-ready metallic transmitter with a 360° status ring

The VEGABAR 29 combines a completely welded 316L metallic cell with the modern housing of VEGA’s 20 series: a coloured 360° status ring visible from every angle, Bluetooth 5.0 for smartphone setup and diagnostics, and ranges up to 1000 bar. The sheet describes the sensor as universally applicable with a switching function, for gases, vapours and liquids even where robustness and hygiene requirements are high. An optional universal connection for hygienic adapters reduces installation effort and stock, and protection goes up to IP68 (0.5 bar) or IP69 with a direct cable outlet.

Three-wire electronics and the status ring

This sheet covers the three-wire version with one transistor output or active 4…20 mA, which the VEGA documentation lists alongside IO-Link and the two-wire 4…20 mA version. The ring gives a coloured 360° indication of the operating or switching status, which VEGA presents as visible from every viewing angle. Setup, scaling and diagnostics are done through VEGA’s free app or PACTware over a Bluetooth link, and approvals including ATEX/IEC, c-UL-us and EAC are printed as available or applied for in the product information.

Picking the 29 over the 39 or 19

The 29 is the metallic sensor in the 20 series and has no display; the VEGABAR 39 adds a display with on-site adjustment, while the VEGABAR 19 in the 10 series is a basic 100 bar sensor with neither Bluetooth nor status ring. For steam-out (SIP) cycles the sheet allows +150 °C with brief vapour stratification. Confirm the process connection, seal and electrical version in the configurator before ordering, and quote the required range and output type in your RFQ.

On water, chemical and food skids the ability to move one sensor between a threaded port and a hygienic adapter is the main practical gain. VEGA’s selection table lists front-flush and hygienic fitting versions for the 28 to 39 types, and states that process temperatures up to +130 °C (+150 °C for steam-in-place with brief vapour stratification) are covered. The metallic cell also tolerates aggressive products according to the same table.

Selection checks for a VEGABAR 29 application

Start with the pressure range. Choose a measuring range that covers the highest pressure the process can reach, including pressure peaks from pump starts and valve closures, while keeping the normal operating point well inside the span so that resolution is not lost. Then decide whether the plant needs a continuous 4…20 mA value, a transistor switching output or both, as this determines which electrical version is ordered. Check that the 12…35 V DC operating voltage is available at the panel and that the input card or relay receiving the signal is compatible with the three-wire active output described on this page.

Medium compatibility comes next. The wetted parts are 316L with a choice of seal materials, so match the seal to the product, cleaning chemicals and temperature. For water, chemical dosing and food lines, confirm whether a threaded fitting or a hygienic connection is needed, and whether the process temperature, including any steam-in-place cycles, stays inside the limits in the table.

Installation guidance

Mount the transmitter where it sees the true process pressure: on liquids, a tapping on the side of the pipe avoids trapped gas at the top and sediment at the bottom; on gases and vapours, a tapping on top keeps condensate away from the cell. Where pressure pulsation or water hammer is expected, consider protective measures in the impulse line. Use the protection rating appropriate to the location and make sure the plug or cable outlet is fitted correctly so that the rated protection is actually achieved. Route the signal cable away from drive and power cables.

Commissioning over Bluetooth

Because the VEGABAR 29 has no on-board display, setup is done with VEGA’s app or PACTware over the Bluetooth link. During commissioning, set the range and switching points to the values agreed with the process engineer, choose how the status ring should indicate operating and switching states, and record the final parameters. Check the zero with the line depressurised and vented, then compare the reading at operating pressure with a reference instrument. Secure Bluetooth access according to site practice so that settings cannot be changed by unauthorised users.

Heat, dust and humidity in Oman and the GCC

Outdoor skids in the region face strong sun, high ambient temperatures, wind-blown dust and, along the coast, humid and salty air. Check that the transmitter’s ambient limits will not be exceeded where the instrument sits in direct sunlight on a hot pipe, and shade it where practical. Keep cable entries sealed against dust and moisture, and on hygienic plants include the transmitter in the cleaning procedure without directing high-pressure jets at electrical connections beyond the rated protection. Routine maintenance is mainly a periodic comparison against a reference gauge, a visual check of the connection and seal, and a review of the status ring indication during plant rounds.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
