VEGA VEGAVIB 63 Vibrating Rod Level Switch with Tube Extension

Description

A rigid extension tube that puts the switching point where you need it

The VEGAVIB 63 mounts the vibrating rod on a rigid tube extension of 0.3 to 6 m, so the limit point can be set deep inside the vessel from a nozzle in the top or side. It is stated for granular and coarse-grained bulk solids, with the same smooth rod, stainless steel 316L wetted parts, 16 bar pressure rating and -50 to +250 °C temperature range as the compact VEGAVIB 61. VEGA says the position of the switching point is determined by the tube extension, and that no medium is needed for setup. The sheet covers the transistor (NPN/PNP) version with 10…55 V DC and 0.5 W maximum power.

Lock fitting and lateral loads

A tube version can be mounted with a lock fitting for infinitely variable height adjustment, which VEGA describes in the accessories chapter with the reminder to take note of the pressure specification and that the lock fitting must not be used with coated versions. In silos the bulk material produces lateral forces on the tube during filling and emptying, which is why long tubes should be kept out of the filling stream and sized with the mechanical stress in mind. The product information gives a protective cover and plug connectors as options.

Specification pointers

Specify tube length, thread or flange, temperature adapter requirement, electronics (transistor, relay, two-wire, NAMUR or contactless switch), and plug or cable gland. Ex approvals are listed by VEGA as available for the family and must be confirmed for your configuration. Compare the VEGAVIB 61 for a short compact switch and the VEGAVIB 62 for a cable-suspended switch up to 80 m when the tube length does not suit.

A tube extension suits vessels where product flow is gentle and the nozzle is on the top, for example a bin where the high-level point lies 2 or 3 metres below the roof. The sheet shows the same hysteresis of approximately 2 mm and switching delays of 0.5 s (covered) and 1 s (uncovered) as the other VEGAVIB versions, so alarm logic can be standardised across a whole silo farm, with just the tube length varying from one bin to another.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
