VEGA VEGACAP 27 PTFE/PFA Capacitive Rod Level Switch to 4 m

Description

A fluoropolymer-insulated rod switch for adhesive and conductive liquids

The VEGACAP 27 is an adjustment-free capacitive point level switch for liquids. VEGA names overfill and dry-run protection for adhesive as well as conductive liquids as its typical applications, and the probe operates in liquids with a dielectric constant from 1.5. The wetted parts are fully PTFE or PFA insulated, the rod is up to 4 m long and the sheet gives -1 to +63 bar and -50 to +200 °C. The sheet lists a 1½-inch clamp as a process fitting option beside the threads.

Fluoropolymer insulation in practice

A PTFE or PFA skin keeps the conductive core of the rod away from aggressive liquids and lets sticky media slide off, which is why VEGA stresses an exact switching point even with strong buildup. Typical uses are acid and alkali day tanks, solvent and coating tanks and dosing vessels where a bare metal rod would corrode. The same rating that allows +200 °C also allows steam-cleaning excursions, but check the exact combination of temperature and pressure against the manufacturer’s derating curve.

Selecting and ordering

Compared with the VEGACAP 98, which is all-PP and unpressurised, the 27 handles pressure up to 63 bar and heat to 200 °C. Check the VEGA configurator for how it differs from the VEGACAP 64. Mounting needs no medium to adjust: set the mode with the DIL switch and the switching point with the potentiometer, and the signal lamp shows the status. The DPDT relay accepts 20 to 253 V AC or 20 to 72 V DC.

When you request a quotation, give the rod length, thread or clamp, medium and its dielectric constant, operating pressure and temperature, and supply. Confirm the complete order code, the PTFE or PFA choice and the approvals with VEGA before ordering, because the sheet refers to the online configurator for those details.

About brand

VEGA is a German maker of level and pressure instruments. Bruno Grieshaber founded the company in 1959 in Triberg in the Black Forest, and it has been based in Schiltach since 1975, still family owned as VEGA Grieshaber KG. VEGA is best known for radar level sensors: it introduced the first two-wire radar level sensor in 1997 and the first 80 GHz radar sensor for bulk solids, the VEGAPULS 69, in 2015.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing VEGA radar and guided wave radar transmitters, point level switches, pressure transmitters and signal conditioning instruments for buyers in Oman and the GCC. Sensors are matched from the product code on the type label.

Where VEGA instruments are used

VEGA radar sensors measure level in crude oil and product tanks, separators, chemical reactors, cement and aggregate silos, grain stores and water reservoirs. Compact cable radars are widely used in wastewater pumping stations and flood monitoring. Because 80 GHz radar focuses a narrow beam, it can measure past internal structures in a tank, and it is not affected by the temperature, pressure or vapour above the product, which suits hot Gulf storage tanks.

Ordering VEGA instruments: what we need

The product code on the type label (for example PS64.XXXXXXX) fixes the measuring range, antenna or probe, process connection, electronics and approvals. Send it with the serial number. For a new measurement add the medium and its dielectric constant if known, tank or silo height and internals, process pressure and temperature, process connection, output (4-20 mA HART, PROFIBUS PA, Modbus or IO-Link), and any hazardous-area or overfill protection approval required.
