SOR 1510 Side Mounted Float Level Switch

Description

A float-operated level switch for separators, scrubbers and sumps

The SOR 1510 is a horizontally mounted, float-operated level switch for plant and OEM applications where open or closed contacts must signal the presence or absence of liquid at a discrete level. The float extension arm moves a magnet that actuates a hermetically sealed reed switch, so the electrical side is isolated from the process. Rotating the unit 180 degrees reverses the actuation, which lets the same switch serve as a high-level or a low-level alarm.

SOR describes the 1500 Series for upstream oil and gas duty: inlet separators, glycol dehydrator contactors and compressor blowcase separators, where a switch closes a shut-off valve or starts a dump cycle. The same logic applies in water and chemical tanks.

How to order a 1510

The quick-select code reads body material (B or C), process connection (for example G5A for 1-1/2 in NPT(M), G2A for 2 in NPT(M), or an ASME flange code from 2-1/2 in to 6 in), float material (C, M or S), switch mechanism (W9, W1, L9 or L1), housing (ES) and accessories. The catalog example is 1510B-G5A-C-W9-ES-MC. Flange-mounted units need one of the CK, CL, CS or NM approval options.

Selection and installation notes

Check the specific gravity of the liquid against the 0.45 minimum, because an extended float, available on the 1510 and 1530, raises the minimum, and an interface-detection option changes the float for liquid-liquid interfaces. The instruction manual allows mounting in a 1-1/2 in NPT half coupling, a 2 in NPT full coupling or pipe tee, or optional flange or chamber mounting, and stresses that the float must move freely throughout its stroke. The nameplate position sets whether the contacts are normally closed at low or high level. For SIL use the manual requires a one-year proof test interval, low demand mode and an HFT of 0 in a 1oo1 configuration.

Confirm before ordering: vessel connection, process pressure and temperature, liquid density, contact rating and whether low power is needed, hazardous-area approval, and the manual check option.

About brand

SOR is an American maker of pressure, temperature, level and flow instruments founded in 1946 and based in Lenexa, Kansas, and part of DwyerOmega.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list SOR switches and transmitters for oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC.

SOR product series

Switches include the 6L explosion-proof pressure switch, the 1510 side mounted float level switch, the 2700 ultrasonic point level switch and the 1520 top mounted vane flow switch.

Transmitters include the 815DT smart differential pressure transmitter and the 1800DP differential pressure transmitter.

Mechanical switches such as the 6L give a direct trip signal without a power supply, while transmitters send a continuous 4-20 mA signal. Explosion-proof enclosures and stainless wetted parts are standard on many models for oil and gas service.

Where SOR instruments are used

Pressure alarms and trips, high and low level alarms on vessels, flow proving and differential pressure measurement in wellsites, gas plants and refineries.

Ordering SOR instruments: what we need

Send the model code, range or setpoint, wetted materials, process and electrical connection and the hazardous-area certification.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the SOR 1510 switch?
A float arm moves a magnet that actuates a hermetically sealed reed switch, so the contacts are isolated from the process.
Can it be used for high or low level alarms?
Yes. Rotating the unit 180 degrees reverses the actuation, and the nameplate position shows whether it is normally closed at high or low level.
What is the minimum specific gravity?
The catalog gives 0.45 for the 1510; an extended float raises it, and an interface-detection option changes the float.
What process rating does the 1510 have?
Up to 5,000 psi (345 bar) and -40 to 400 F (-40 to 204 C), with agency approvals possibly affecting the ratings.
Is the 1510 safety certified?
SOR states certification to IEC 61508 for non-redundant use in SIL1 and SIL2 systems for most models, with a one-year proof test interval in the instructions.
