Fisher 627 Pressure Reducing Regulator
Overview
The Fisher 627 Series is a family of direct-operated pressure reducing regulators designed for low and high-pressure systems handling natural gas, air or a variety of other gases. Emerson positions the series for farm tap service, regulator-relief duty, monitoring regulators, slam-shut stations and high-pressure industrial pressure reduction. A spring-loaded diaphragm compares outlet pressure against the set point and moves a valve disk against an orifice, so no external power or pilot supply is required. Body ratings reach 2000 psig / 138 barg on threaded steel and stainless steel bodies, and the series covers outlet settings from 5 psig up to 500 psig depending on the construction.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Fisher 627 to gas utilities, oil and gas operators, power producers and industrial plants in Oman and across the GCC. Our engineering team in Muscat helps select the right type, spring, orifice and disk combination from the manufacturer’s Fisher 627 datasheet, and coordinates sourcing and delivery for fuel gas skids, instrument gas headers and pressure reducing stations from Sohar to Salalah.
Operating Principle
The Fisher 627 works on a simple force balance. When downstream demand decreases, pressure under the diaphragm rises and overcomes the force of the control spring. Through the pusher post assembly, lever and valve stem, the disk moves closer to the orifice and reduces gas flow. When downstream demand increases, pressure under the diaphragm falls, spring force pushes the pusher post downward and the disk moves away from the orifice to admit more flow. On the standard Type 627, a pitot tube located in the high-velocity stream provides dynamic boost that compensates for the outlet pressure drop that would otherwise occur as flow rises.
Fisher 627 types with an M suffix use a blocking throat stem seal that separates body outlet pressure from the diaphragm case. Pressure is then registered through a 1/4 NPT control line connection, which suits monitoring arrangements or installations where other equipment sits between the regulator and the pressure control point. The balanced-port Type 627BM neutralizes inlet sensitivity so that one large 9/16 inch / 14.3 mm orifice can be used without reducing inlet pressure ratings, combining the flow of a small pilot-operated regulator with the speed of a self-operated design.
Engineering Design of the Fisher 627
The Fisher 627 is built around a two-bolt connection between the body and diaphragm casing, which simplifies disassembly. Trim parts can be replaced without removing the body from the pipeline, and both the diaphragm case and body can be rotated to any of four positions to suit tight spaces. The regulator may be installed in any position as long as the spring case vent is protected from the elements. Bodies are offered in ductile iron, WCC steel, LCC steel and stainless steel, while spring and diaphragm cases come in WCC steel, stainless steel, ductile iron or die cast aluminum. An adjusting screw locknut and protective cap are standard to discourage tampering with the set point.
Body sizes are 3/4 NPT, NPS 1 / DN 25, NPS 1-1/4 / DN 32 and NPS 2 / DN 50, with NPT, CL150 RF, CL300 RF and CL600 RF end connections on the 1 inch and 2 inch sizes. A Long Body version shares the face-to-face dimensions of the Type 630, so it can replace existing Type 630 installations without modifying the piping. Valve disks are available in Nitrile (NBR), Fluorocarbon (FKM) or Nylon (PA), giving bubble tight shutoff with NBR and FKM and ANSI/FCI 70-3 Class IV with nylon on the 627BM.
Key Features
The Fisher 627 bulletin highlights the following design features that matter to station designers and maintenance teams.
- Internal relief on the Fisher 627R, 627LR, 627MR and 627BMR can, in many cases, eliminate the usual requirement for an external relief valve.
- A travel stop on the relief versions keeps the internal relief working even if the disk or linkage fails, because the pusher post contacts the lever retainer.
- A rubber relief indicator cap on the vent assembly pops off when the relief valve has opened since the last inspection.
- The 627OSX adds a Type OSE slam-shut device for overpressure, overpressure and underpressure, or dual overpressure protection.
- The 627H, 627HM and 627BHM use a diaphragm limiter to deliver higher outlet pressures up to 500 psig / 34.5 barg.
- Orifice sizes from 3/32 inch / 2.4 mm to 1/2 inch / 13 mm allow the capacity to be matched to the required flow.
- Configurations have been evaluated for hydrogen service, including material compatibility, leakage, permeation and embrittlement.
- Stainless steel, LCC and aluminum constructions are rated for environments down to –40 °C.
Industrial Applications
The Fisher 627 is common wherever a compact, self-contained regulator must cut a high supply pressure down to a stable working pressure. Typical Fisher 627 duties include fuel gas supply to fired heaters, boilers and gas turbines, wellhead and farm tap service on gathering lines, nitrogen and air utility headers, and the first-cut stage ahead of instrument supply regulators. In the Sultanate of Oman these applications appear on oil and gas production sites in the interior, in gas-fired power and desalination plants on the coast, and in the industrial estates of Sohar, Duqm and Salalah, where the internal relief and slam-shut options help designers meet overpressure protection requirements with fewer separate components.
Seven Star LLC supports regulator projects in Oman and the GCC with application review, availability checks and technical documentation. For a complete pressure control train, the Fisher 627 is often combined with the Fisher 67C instrument supply regulator for final instrument air or gas supply, the pilot-operated Fisher 1098-EGR pressure reducing regulator for larger capacities, and a Rosemount 2088 pressure transmitter for downstream pressure monitoring.

Fisher control valve and actuator families
Fisher groups its valves by body style. On this page you will find sliding-stem globe valves such as the easy-e ET, the high-pressure HPT and HPAT, and the GX valve and actuator system. Rotary designs include the Vee-Ball V150, V200 and V300 segmented ball valves, the V250 Hi-Ball and the CV500 eccentric plug valve. Actuators include the 1052 spring-and-diaphragm rotary actuator and the easy-Drive electric actuator. Instruments complete the loop: FIELDVUE digital valve controllers, pneumatic positioners, the 2500 pneumatic level controller with displacer sensor and the DLC3100 digital level controller. Fisher regulators such as the 627 reduce pressure on fuel gas and instrument supply lines.Where Fisher valves are used
Fisher control valves handle throttling duty on separators, compressors, steam systems, gas dehydration, refining units and power plant feedwater across the GCC. Vee-Ball valves suit fibrous or erosive fluids and high capacity, easy-e globe valves are the general-purpose choice, and HP series bodies cover high pressure classes.Ordering Fisher valves and parts: what we need
Every Fisher assembly carries a serial number on the actuator and body nameplates, and the manufacturer's records link that number to the original build: body size and rating, trim, materials, actuator size and bench set. For spare parts, send the serial number or a nameplate photo and the part needed, such as trim set, packing kit, diaphragm or positioner. For a new valve, send the process data sheet with fluid, flow, inlet and outlet pressure, temperature, line size, rating, end connections, fail action and material or sour service requirements.Browse Fisher products by category: Control Valves, Valve Positioner, Valve Actuator, Regulators.
