Fisher 1052 Diaphragm Rotary Actuator
Overview
The Fisher 1052 is a pneumatic spring-return diaphragm rotary actuator used to operate splined-shaft rotary control valves such as Vee-Ball segmented ball valves, high performance butterfly valves and eccentric plug valves. It is suitable for on-off service and for throttling service with or without a positioner, and its spring is adjustable so the actuator can be matched closely to the valve torque. Emerson offers the actuator in sizes 20, 33, 40, 60 and 70, with fail-open or fail-close construction and four actuator-valve mounting positions.
Seven Star LLC supplies the Fisher 1052 to oil and gas, power, water and process customers in Oman and the GCC, either as part of a complete Fisher rotary control valve assembly or as an actuator for an existing valve. Our engineering team in Muscat uses the official Fisher 1052 datasheet and instruction manuals to confirm size, spring range, mounting and accessories before quotation.
Operating Principle
The Fisher 1052 is direct acting: increasing loading pressure on top of the diaphragm moves the diaphragm rod down and extends it out of the spring barrel, while decreasing pressure lets the spring force the rod back upward. The linear rod motion turns a lever clamped to the valve shaft, so the stroke becomes a rotation of up to 90 degrees, with 60 or 75 degree versions available. If air supply is lost, the spring drives the valve to its fail position, which can be set as open or closed by the mounting arrangement.
The spring and diaphragm are selected for the application so that full valve travel is produced within the diaphragm pressure range on the nameplate. Because the 1052 spring is adjustable, initial compression can be set through an externally accessible spring adjuster, which also lets maintenance staff relieve spring compression safely. When a positioner such as a FIELDVUE digital valve controller is fitted, it controls the loading pressure to hold the valve at the required position for precise throttling.
Engineering Design of the Fisher 1052
The actuator housing and spring barrel are cast iron, the diaphragm is nitrile on nylon or silicone on polyester, the diaphragm casing is pressed steel and the lever is ductile iron. A single-joint linkage with a splined and clamped lever minimizes lost motion and improves control accuracy. The actuator-valve linkage is fully enclosed, yet the valve packing adjustment remains accessible without removing any parts. Travel is shown by a graduated scale and pointer on the actuator end of the valve shaft, and the standard pressure connection is 1/4 NPT, with 1/2 or 3/4 NPT and a 3/4 NPT pipe-away vent available on size 70.
On size 70, the Fisher 1052 accepts valve shaft diameters of 31.8, 38.1, 44.5 and 50.8 mm and delivers a maximum breakout torque of up to 1370 N.m, depending on construction and casing pressure. The size 70 actuator weighs about 123 kg. Nitrile diaphragms are rated from –40 to 82 °C and silicone diaphragms from –40 to 149 °C. H and J mounting adaptations on sizes 40, 60 and 70 let the actuator drive non-Fisher equipment or keyed-shaft butterfly valves.
Key Features
The Fisher 1052 product bulletin and manuals describe these practical design features.
- Fail-open or fail-close construction and four actuator-valve mounting positions give wide application flexibility.
- A splined and clamped single-joint linkage minimizes dead band for accurate throttling control.
- An externally accessible spring adjuster allows initial compression to be set or relieved safely.
- Rugged construction provides stability, corrosion resistance and protection against deformation if over-pressurized.
- A fully enclosed linkage protects personnel while keeping valve packing adjustment accessible.
- Top-mounted or declutchable side-mounted handwheels provide manual operation and override.
- Adjustable up and down travel stops limit actuator stroke where required.
- Limit switches, TopWorx position indicating switches and digital positioners mount easily on the actuator.
Industrial Applications
Rotary control valves driven by the Fisher 1052 are found in flow, pressure and level loops where high capacity and good rangeability are needed. Typical duties include gas and liquid flow control on production manifolds, compressor recycle and suction control, fuel gas and steam service, cooling water and seawater systems, and slurry or fibrous media handled by Vee-Ball valves. In the Sultanate of Oman these applications occur in upstream oil and gas facilities, gas processing plants, independent power and desalination projects on the coast, and refineries and chemical plants in Sohar and Duqm. The pipe-away vent option also supports installations where natural gas is used as the actuator supply medium.
Seven Star LLC supports control valve and actuator projects across Oman and the GCC with sizing reviews and regional delivery. The Fisher 1052 is commonly paired with the Fisher V150 Vee-Ball segmented ball control valve and the Fisher 8580 high performance butterfly valve, and is usually controlled by the Fisher FIELDVUE DVC6200 digital valve controller for throttling service.

Fisher control valve and actuator families
Fisher groups its valves by body style. On this page you will find sliding-stem globe valves such as the easy-e ET, the high-pressure HPT and HPAT, and the GX valve and actuator system. Rotary designs include the Vee-Ball V150, V200 and V300 segmented ball valves, the V250 Hi-Ball and the CV500 eccentric plug valve. Actuators include the 1052 spring-and-diaphragm rotary actuator and the easy-Drive electric actuator. Instruments complete the loop: FIELDVUE digital valve controllers, pneumatic positioners, the 2500 pneumatic level controller with displacer sensor and the DLC3100 digital level controller. Fisher regulators such as the 627 reduce pressure on fuel gas and instrument supply lines.Where Fisher valves are used
Fisher control valves handle throttling duty on separators, compressors, steam systems, gas dehydration, refining units and power plant feedwater across the GCC. Vee-Ball valves suit fibrous or erosive fluids and high capacity, easy-e globe valves are the general-purpose choice, and HP series bodies cover high pressure classes.Ordering Fisher valves and parts: what we need
Every Fisher assembly carries a serial number on the actuator and body nameplates, and the manufacturer's records link that number to the original build: body size and rating, trim, materials, actuator size and bench set. For spare parts, send the serial number or a nameplate photo and the part needed, such as trim set, packing kit, diaphragm or positioner. For a new valve, send the process data sheet with fluid, flow, inlet and outlet pressure, temperature, line size, rating, end connections, fail action and material or sour service requirements.Browse Fisher products by category: Control Valves, Valve Positioner, Valve Actuator, Regulators.
