Banner DXM700 Wireless IIoT Controller

Description

Overview

The Banner DXM700 is an industrial wireless controller that turns scattered sensors and machines into an Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) system. Acting as a communications gateway, it interfaces local serial ports, local I/O and Sure Cross ISM-band radio devices to the Internet over a wired Ethernet connection or an optional LTE-M cellular modem. Its internal logic controller processes, logs and pushes data, so remote assets can be monitored and controlled without building a full SCADA layer.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Banner DXM700 to utilities, facility managers and process plants in Oman and the GCC that need practical condition and tank monitoring. Our engineers in Muscat help select the right radio version, plan the Modbus register map and confirm cellular options, and we provide engineering support for sites in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah.

Operating Principle

The Banner DXM700 collects data from three sources: wireless Sure Cross nodes and sensors through its integrated DX80 or MultiHop radio, wired Modbus RTU devices on its RS-485 port, and Modbus TCP or EtherNet/IP hosts on the Ethernet port. All values are mapped into local registers, including 32-bit integer, floating-point and non-volatile registers, where read rules, write rules and scaling move data between devices on a cyclical or change-of-state basis.

Action rules then apply thresholds with timers, maths and logic, SR, T, D and JK flip-flops, trending filters and counters, while the optional ScriptBasic language handles more complex sequences. A scheduler adds calendar events, holiday skips and an astronomical clock. Data can be logged cyclically to a removable micro SD card of up to 8 GB and pushed to Banner Cloud Data Services or other web services, with secure email alerts when a threshold is crossed. The result is a controller that can make local decisions, drive its four PNP outputs and report to the cloud at the same time.

Engineering Design of the Banner DXM700

The Banner DXM700 is housed in a compact 70 mm wide polycarbonate enclosure designed for DIN-rail mounting inside a control panel. The front carries a user-programmable LCD, four user-defined LEDs and navigation keys used to bind Sure Cross radios, run a site survey of radio signal quality and view registers, outputs and system status. Ports include RS-485, Ethernet and USB, and the external antenna connects through a reverse-polarity SMA connector.

The DXM700-B1 family is powered from 12 to 30 V DC through wiring terminals and consumes about 35 mA average at 12 V excluding load. Radio versions are B1R1 with a 900 MHz PE5 Performance radio, B1R2 with a 900 MHz HE5 MultiHop radio, B1R3 with a 2.4 GHz PE5 radio and B1R4 with a 2.4 GHz HE5 MultiHop radio, while B1 has no radio and B1PTL is pre-programmed for pick-to-light. Security protocols include VPN, SSL and HTTPS, and file and LCD password protection is available.

Key Features

The Banner DXM700 combines the following functions in one DIN-rail device:

  • Integrated Sure Cross DX80 or MultiHop radio in the 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz ISM band for long-range wireless sensor networks.
  • Modbus RTU client and server on RS-485, plus Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP for PLC and HMI connectivity.
  • Optional LTE-M cellular modem that removes the need for local IT infrastructure at remote sites.
  • Logic controller with action rules and ScriptBasic, using 2,850 integer, 2,000 floating-point and 1,050 non-volatile registers.
  • Scheduler with calendar events, holiday skips, one-time events and an astronomical clock.
  • Cyclic and event data logging to a removable micro SD card of up to 8 GB.
  • Four PNP sourcing outputs rated 100 mA at 30 V DC for local alarms, beacons and triggers.
  • Operating range of -20 to +60 °C, tested to IEC 60068-2-6 vibration and IEC 60068-2-27 shock.

Industrial Applications

Banner positions the DXM700 for productivity, predictive maintenance and environmental monitoring. Typical Banner DXM700 tasks include vibration and temperature monitoring of motors, pumps and fans, tank level monitoring, non-contact condition monitoring, overall equipment effectiveness tracking with tower lights, call-for-parts stations and temperature and humidity monitoring of rooms and warehouses. Because wireless nodes can be added without trenching cable, the controller is attractive for retrofits in existing plants.

In Oman, the Banner DXM700 suits water reservoirs and pumping stations, district cooling plants, cold stores and remote utility kiosks, where cable runs are long and maintenance teams need early warning. Seven Star LLC supplies the controller as a trusted supplier and supports the surrounding communication and sensing hardware, such as the Winsonic NE31001-00200 4G LTE-A outdoor router, the ExpertDAQ EX9520 RS232 to RS485 isolated converter and the Vaisala DMT152 dew point transmitter.

About brand

Banner Engineering, founded in 1966 in Minneapolis, USA, makes industrial sensors, indicator lights and machine safety products that show up on packaging lines and conveyors everywhere. Seven Star LLC lists Banner devices including the Q4X rugged stainless steel laser distance sensor and the K50 Pro Beacon IO-Link multicolor RGB indicator, and supplies Banner sensors and indicators to plants and machine builders in Oman.

Banner Q4X and K50 Pro

Banner offers the Q4X in four range versions, all starting at 25 mm: Q4X100 to 100 mm, Q4X300 to 300 mm, Q4X500 to 500 mm and Q4X600 to 600 mm. The series is available with discrete, analog and IO-Link outputs and has a display on the sensor. The K50 Pro Beacon is a status indicator whose color and behavior are set from the controller over IO-Link.

Ordering Banner products: what we need

Send the complete Banner model number from the device label, because range, output type and connector are all coded into it. For the Q4X, state the measuring distance, the output your PLC input needs and the connector or cable style. For indicators, give the housing size, control method and voltage. Mating cordsets and brackets can be included for GCC orders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which protocols does the Banner DXM700 support?
The controller supports Modbus RTU client and server on RS-485, Modbus TCP client and server and EtherNet/IP on Ethernet, and Sure Cross wireless radios in the 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz band. This lets it share data with PLCs, HMIs and remote wireless nodes at the same time.
Can the Banner DXM700 make local control decisions?
Yes. Action rules provide thresholds with timers, maths, logic, flip-flops, trending and counting, and ScriptBasic allows more complex programs. Results can drive the four local PNP outputs or be written to remote Modbus devices.
Which Banner DXM700 radio version should be selected?
Choose by frequency band and network type: B1R1 and B1R3 carry Performance radios for star networks in 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz, while B1R2 and B1R4 carry MultiHop data radios for extended networks. The B1 has no radio and is used as a wired controller.
Does the Banner DXM700 need a cellular connection?
No. It can push data over wired Ethernet. An LTE-M cellular modem kit is an option for remote sites without network infrastructure, subject to local cellular coverage and plans.
Can Seven Star LLC support Banner DXM700 projects in Oman?
Seven Star LLC supplies the Banner DXM700 and related Sure Cross equipment to customers in Oman and the GCC, with engineering support from Muscat for selection and integration.
