Banner S18-2 Series 18 mm Barrel Photoelectric Sensor
Description
The Banner S18-2 series is a family of plastic 18 mm barrel photoelectric sensors for cost-sensitive, high-volume installations. The manual (p/n 170670 Rev. L) lists opposed-mode emitters and receivers, retroreflective and polarized retroreflective sensors, diffuse sensors and fixed-field sensors with PNP or NPN complementary outputs, so one housing style covers most presence-detection tasks on a machine.
One 18 mm barrel housing for several sensing modes
Each sensor uses a bright visible red emitter that makes alignment easy. Three LEDs show power and stability (green) and output state (amber). Banner quotes stable detection in the presence of fluorescent lighting for non through-beam applications, and a wide operating range of -40 to +70 °C. Models with a single-turn potentiometer allow sensitivity adjustment, and the beam-inhibit emitter variant can be switched off by tying the black wire to 10 to 30 V DC.
Sensing ranges listed in the manual are 25 m for opposed mode, 6 m for polarized retroreflective and 7.5 m for retroreflective versions with a BRT-84 reflector, 300 mm or 750 mm for diffuse versions, and fixed-field cut-offs from 30 mm to 200 mm. Connections are a 2 m or 9 m cable, a 150 mm pigtail with an M8 or M12 connector, or a 4-pin M12 quick-disconnect. For a safety-rated sensor see the Banner devices under sensors and transmitters, and note that the S18-2 must not be used for personnel protection. A related compact sensor is the Banner Q4X.

Selecting a model
The model number encodes the output and sensing mode: for example S18-2VPDL-Q8 is a PNP diffuse sensor with a 4-pin M12 connector, and S18-2VNFF50-2M is an NPN fixed-field sensor with a 50 mm cut-off and a 2 m cable. Please give the sensing mode, range, output polarity and connector style when requesting a quotation, so the exact part number can be confirmed. Cordsets, apertures, brackets and BRT-84 reflectors are listed as accessories in the manual.
Documents and quotation
The attached file is the Banner S18-2 product manual, which lists every model and the full specifications. Availability is confirmed per order, and some older S18-2 models are listed by Banner as discontinued, so the exact part number should be checked before ordering.

About brand
Banner Engineering, founded in 1966 in Minneapolis, USA, makes industrial sensors, indicator lights and machine safety products that show up on packaging lines and conveyors everywhere. Seven Star LLC lists Banner devices including the Q4X rugged stainless steel laser distance sensor and the K50 Pro Beacon IO-Link multicolor RGB indicator, and supplies Banner sensors and indicators to plants and machine builders in Oman.
Banner Q4X and K50 Pro
Banner offers the Q4X in four range versions, all starting at 25 mm: Q4X100 to 100 mm, Q4X300 to 300 mm, Q4X500 to 500 mm and Q4X600 to 600 mm. The series is available with discrete, analog and IO-Link outputs and has a display on the sensor. The K50 Pro Beacon is a status indicator whose color and behavior are set from the controller over IO-Link.
Ordering Banner products: what we need
Send the complete Banner model number from the device label, because range, output type and connector are all coded into it. For the Q4X, state the measuring distance, the output your PLC input needs and the connector or cable style. For indicators, give the housing size, control method and voltage. Mating cordsets and brackets can be included for GCC orders.
