Argus EK71 End-Entry Floating Ball Valve
Overview
The Argus EK71 is an end-entry floating ball valve from Flowserve, developed for oil and gas duties where leakage to atmosphere or across the seat is a cost and a safety risk. Its one-piece body has no centre joint, so the number of potential external leak paths is lower than on a split-body valve. Flowserve states that the design meets API 6D, ASME B16.34 and BS 5351 requirements.
Seven Star LLC supports the Argus EK71 for Oman and GCC projects, with engineering support in Muscat and availability enquiries handled through our instrumentation division. We use the Flowserve datasheet to confirm the size-and-class combination you need, because the EK71 is built in several bore and pressure variants. For comparison, our Argus FK76M trunnion mounted ball valve page covers the larger Argus trunnion design.
End-Entry Design Principle
In an end-entry valve the ball and seats are installed through one end of a single forged body and retained by an insert, instead of being clamped between two body halves. The ball floats against the downstream seat under line pressure, exactly as in other floating designs, but the body itself is a single pressure-containing forging. Fewer body joints give fewer gasket or bolted interfaces that can weep over years of thermal cycling.
The seat design follows FCI 70-2 Class VI, and the ball is supported by the seats rather than by trunnions. A stem seal arrangement with primary PTFE or FPM and secondary Celastic sealing, together with a stem carried in bearings, keeps the seals out of the torque path. The result is a predictable operating torque and a stem seal that complies with TA-Luft and EPA Method 21 fugitive emission requirements.
Engineering Design of the Argus EK71
The body of the Argus EK71 is a one-piece low-temperature forged carbon steel (A350 LF2) end-entry design. Inside it sits a superfine-finished, seat-supported ball, an anti-blow-out stem, compact ball seats and an anti-static device. Ball options in the datasheet are CR13 stainless steel (1.4006 or 1.4104) or duplex stainless steel, with a stainless steel 1.4571 stem, and seats in PTFE or POM.
The datasheet lists the size and class matrix: DN 15 in Class 150 full bore, DN 20 to 50 in Class 150 reduced bore, DN 15 to 50 in Class 300 to 600 full bore, and DN 15 to 40 in Class 900 to 1500 full bore. Standard material combinations are given as codes, for example 1805008552 with a CR13 ball and stem and PTFE seats, and 1807008442 for Class 600 with POM seats and FPM stem seals. Accessories include limit switches, locking devices, extended wrenches, stem extensions and spring-return handles.
Key Features
The Argus EK71 focuses on leak tightness and low-temperature toughness. Main features include:
- One-piece forged end-entry body in low-temperature carbon steel, reducing external leak paths.
- Seat design to FCI 70-2 Class VI for the highest zero-leakage demands.
- Soft seats in PTFE or POM, with FPM stem and insert seals available for specific media.
- Double stem seal system to TA-Luft and EPA Method 21, with ISO 15848 compliance named by Flowserve.
- Anti-blow-out stem supported in bearings so seals are free from operating loads.
- Anti-static device conforming to DIN EN ISO 17292 and fire-safe design to API 607 and ISO 10497.
- Full-bore and reduced-bore variants across Class 150, 300, 600, 900 and 1500 as shown in the datasheet.
- Temperature range of -48 to 230°C on the Flowserve product page.
Industrial Applications
Flowserve positions the Argus EK71 for midstream transportation and downstream processing in oil and gas, and for conventional steam, combined-cycle and geothermal power. On Omani gas gathering lines, metering skids and compressor stations, a small end-entry valve typically isolates instruments, pressure gauges, drains and vents, where a leaking connection means lost product or a flaring event.
Low-temperature carbon steel to A350 LF2 also suits services that see sub-zero metal temperatures, such as LNG and LPG handling, and the Class 900 to 1500 range suits high-pressure instrument manifolds. Seven Star LLC helps procurement teams in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah convert a line list into a part number, and can add an actuator such as the Biffi OLGA-H hydraulic quarter-turn actuator to the same enquiry when remote operation is needed.

Documents and Ordering Notes
The attached file is the two-page Flowserve technical data sheet for the Argus EK71. The product page and the datasheet quote slightly different pressure ranges because the datasheet includes the Class 900 to 1500 small-bore variants. Please state the class and bore when you request a quotation so the correct variant is confirmed.
Why Choose Seven Star LLC for Argus EK71 Supply
End-entry valves are specified because leakage is expensive, so the order details deserve the same care as the design. For every Argus EK71 request, Seven Star LLC compares the piping class, bore type, seat material and stem seal material with the Flowserve datasheet, and highlights where PTFE, POM or FPM seals suit the fluid. Our engineers in Muscat can also align the Argus EK71 with the instrument tubing, test pressure and documentation your project requires, so that the valve reaching site is the variant that was actually specified.
