Flowserve Valtek Mark 100 Ultra-Capacity Globe Control Valve

Description

Overview

The Flowserve Valtek Mark 100 is an ultra-capacity linear globe and angle control valve built for high flow rates and severe service. Based on the proven Valtek Mark One control valve technology, the Valtek Mark 100 is designed specifically for use with severe service trims and delivers exceptional capacity, extra-fine control and easy maintenance in a broad range of industries. It is offered in sizes NPS 6 to 36, with larger sizes as needed, in ASME Class 150 to 600, with bodies in carbon steel, stainless steels, chrome-moly steels and other castable alloys, and for temperatures from -196 °C to 815 °C (-320 °F to 1 500 °F).

Seven Star LLC supplies the Valtek Mark 100 and its actuation, positioners and trims to refineries, gas processing plants, LNG and petrochemical facilities and power stations across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. We coordinate sizing inputs, trim selection and accessories with project and maintenance teams, and support large control valve requirements for plants in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm and Salalah.

Operating Principle of the Valtek Mark 100

Like every globe control valve, the Valtek Mark 100 throttles flow by moving a plug linearly relative to a seat ring, changing the open flow area as the actuator strokes. What distinguishes the Valtek Mark 100 is its stroke length: Flowserve states that it uses the longest stroke lengths of any standard globe valve. With a longer stroke, each increment of actuator travel produces a smaller change in flow coefficient, so any positioner error or deadband translates into a smaller flow error. The Flowserve brochure illustrates this with an example in which, for the same Cv, a competitor valve strokes a little over 1 inch while the Mark 100 strokes just under 1.75 inch, giving finer control for the same overstroke.

The long stroke is combined with double top stem guiding and cage guiding, which keeps the plug stable and centred throughout travel. As general engineering background, this guiding arrangement resists vibration and side loads from high-velocity flow, which is essential when multi-stage noise or anti-cavitation trims are used in high pressure-drop services. Flowserve also reports that the streamlined gallery of the Valtek Mark 100 raises capacity by an average of 15 % over competing globe valves of the same size, which can allow a smaller valve to be selected.

Engineering Design of the Valtek Mark 100

The Valtek Mark 100 features an integral cast bonnet and body flange, an integral body stand, a streamlined gallery and simple top-entry clamped seats with a self-aligning seat ring. Independent stem and plug head guiding contribute to durability, while the actuator can be removed without removing the packing gland, bonnet nuts accept both socket and end wrenches, and most trim parts have tapped lifting holes to make maintenance of large valves safer and quicker. Powerful and rigid spring-cylinder actuators in compact packages provide the stiffness and thrust needed for precise positioning.

The valve accepts a broad spectrum of Flowserve severe service trims. CavControl directs cavitation away from metal surfaces in low to mild cavitation services, MegaStream drilled-hole cages and Stealth trim reduce aerodynamic noise, and DiamondBack stacked-disc trim eliminates cavitation in moderate to severe services and can pass small to moderate particulates. According to Flowserve, noise abatement trims reduce noise by up to 40 dBA, and DiamondBack manages cavitation indices as low as 1.0004. The Logix 3800 digital positioner and RedRaven condition monitoring complete the package.

Key Features of the Valtek Mark 100

The following features define the Valtek Mark 100 in large-capacity control service:

  • Ultra-capacity globe and angle bodies from NPS 6 to 36, with larger sizes available as needed.
  • ASME Class 150 to 600 and a temperature range of -196 °C to 815 °C.
  • Longest stroke lengths of any standard globe valve for extra-fine control.
  • Double top stem guiding plus cage guiding for stable plug positioning.
  • Streamlined gallery providing higher capacity, often allowing a smaller valve size.
  • Top-entry clamped seat and self-aligning seat ring for reduced downtime.
  • Compatible with CavControl, MegaStream, Stealth and DiamondBack severe service trims.
  • Stiff, high-thrust spring-cylinder actuator with Logix 3800 digital positioner.

Industrial Applications

Flowserve positions the Valtek Mark 100 as a large control valve for maximum-capacity and severe service applications in both gas and liquid services. In Oman and the GCC this includes compressor recycle and anti-surge related control, high pressure-drop gas letdown, boiler feedwater and recirculation, large steam conditioning duties, LNG and gas processing flow control, and seawater and brine handling in desalination and utility plants. Its ability to combine high capacity with noise and anti-cavitation trims makes it relevant to the large plants at Sohar, Duqm and Qalhat.

As general selection guidance, buyers of large globe valves should define every flow case, from minimum to maximum, together with the corresponding inlet and outlet pressures, because severe service trims are selected against the most demanding case rather than the normal one. Allowable noise at one metre, the presence of flashing or cavitation, the risk of entrained solids and the required shutoff class all influence trim choice, actuator size and body material. Providing this information at enquiry stage avoids oversized valves, shortens the engineering cycle and helps ensure that the delivered valve controls well across its entire operating range.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Valtek Mark 100 as an engineered package and can support sites already using related Flowserve products, such as the Valtek Mark One globe control valve for general service and the Logix 3800 digital positioner as a common positioner platform. For associated motor-operated isolation valves, the Limitorque MX multi-turn actuator is also available through our team.

About brand

Durco, Valtek, Limitorque, Argus and Logix are product names that many engineers know better than the company behind them. All are Flowserve lines, covering pumps, valves, mechanical seals and valve automation, and the company is based in Irving, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Flowserve pumps, seals, control valves, ball valves, actuators and positioners for process plants in Oman, working from the nameplate data and the manufacturer's documentation.

Flowserve product families listed here

Flowserve pumps on this page are the Durco Mark 3 ANSI process pump and the ECPJ vertical sump pump built to API 610 type VS4. Sealing products are the ISC2 cartridge mechanical seal to API 682 and DuraClear barrier fluid for dual seal systems. Flowserve valves include the Valtek Mark One globe control valve, Argus floating and trunnion-mounted ball valves (EK71, FK79, FK76M) and Durco Microfinish ball valves. Automation is covered by Limitorque MX and L120 multi-turn electric actuators, the Rotadisk RD and RDF pneumatic actuator and the Logix 3800 digital positioner.

Where Flowserve equipment is used

Mark 3 pumps handle acids, caustic, solvents and utilities in chemical and petrochemical units. VS4 sump pumps drain pits and collection tanks. Valtek control valves and Argus ball valves are found in refining, gas processing, power and desalination, and Limitorque actuators operate gate and globe valves on pipelines, tank farms and water networks across the GCC.
