Bray Flow-Tek S80 Two-Piece Threaded Stainless Ball Valve
Description
Bray Flow-Tek Series S80 two-piece threaded stainless steel ball valve
The Series S80 is a two-piece, full port, threaded ball valve from Bray’s Flow-Tek line, made in investment cast stainless steel. It is a compact, economical isolation valve for process and utility pipework in sizes from 1/4 in. to 4 in. (8 mm to 100 mm), rated 1000 psi WOG (69 bar) and 150 psi saturated steam (10.3 bar). The S80 is designed for the chemical, textile and general process industries, and in practice is also used on air, water, oil and gas lines. Seven Star LLC supplies Bray valves in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

What the S80 two-piece construction means in service
A two-piece body is made from a main body and one end cap, screwed together with the ball and seats trapped inside. Compared with a three-piece valve like the Series 5000/6000, it has fewer leak paths and a lower cost, but the valve cannot be opened up without taking it out of the line, because both ends are threaded into the pipe. That makes the S80 well suited to lines where a valve is replaced rather than repaired, such as drains, vents, utility headers and chemical dosing branches. Where in-line repair is wanted, a three-piece valve is a better choice.
The ball is full-port, so the bore matches the nominal pipe size closely and the pressure loss is low. The S80 uses RPTFE seats and an adjustable stem packing, with a blowout-proof stem installed from inside the body. As with all PTFE-seated valves, the temperature and pressure rating are linked: the datasheet pressure-temperature graph shows the working pressure falling as temperature rises toward 450°F, so a hot service must be checked against the curve, not only the nominal rating.
Sizes, dimensions and Cv of the S80
The datasheet gives the face-to-face, port, handle height and Cv for each size, in inches and millimetres. Cv, the flow coefficient, rises quickly with size, from about 10 at 1/4 in. to over 1,400 at 4 in. in the table published. Weight also rises, and a 4 in. valve needs proper pipe support. Port diameters are 11.6 mm for 1/4 in. and 94 mm for the 4 in. valve in the metric table.
| Size | Port (mm) | Weight (kg) |
|---|---|---|
| 1/2 in. (15 mm) | 15 | 0.28 |
| 1 in. (25 mm) | 25 | 0.81 |
| 2 in. (50 mm) | 50 | 2.76 |
| 3 in. (80 mm) | 80 | 7.5 |
| 4 in. (100 mm) | 94 | 17.8 |
These weights are those published in the datasheet’s metric table; the complete table with Cv and handle dimensions is in the attached document.
Where S80 fits in the Flow-Tek and Bray range
The S80 is one of several threaded Bray valves, alongside the S20/FS20, S40, S51 and S70/S90 models, while the 5000/6000 and 7000/8000 are the three-piece designs in the same Flow-Tek family. For flanged lines, the F15/F30 and RF15/RF30 valves are the match. For automation, Bray offers actuators, but this valve’s lever handle is the standard operator; confirm with the supplier before planning an actuator on a threaded valve, since the mounting arrangement is not shown on the datasheet.
Selection and ordering checklist for S80
- Size from 1/4 in. to 4 in., and thread type: NPT, BSPT or BSPP.
- Pressure and temperature, checked against the PTFE seat curve.
- Media compatibility with CF8M stainless steel, RPTFE and the stem packing.
- Handle: standard latch or oval handle, and padlock use.
- Steam duty: the 150 psi WSP rating applies; higher steam pressures need another valve.
- Marking, cleaning and certification documents.
Installation and maintenance of the S80 valve
Apply a thread sealant suitable for the medium to the male pipe thread, not inside the valve, and never over-tighten with a wrench on the body end cap; use the wrench on the end nearest the joint being tightened. Support the pipe on both sides, especially for 2 in. and larger valves with long handles. Operate the valve through a few cycles after installation and check the gland nut for leakage; stem packing may need a small adjustment after the first thermal cycles. Keep the valve fully open or fully closed in normal use. Partly open throttling wears the PTFE seats quickly, and this valve is an isolation valve, not a control valve.
Typical S80 applications in Oman and the GCC
Stainless steel threaded ball valves are used in the Gulf for seawater-exposed instrument and utility lines, chemical dosing and sampling in desalination and water treatment, compressed air and nitrogen on production sites, and hot water and low-pressure steam services in power and process plants. Stainless steel bodies resist the coastal atmosphere and salt-laden dust better than carbon steel. For ambient conditions above 40°C, check the handle sleeve and PTFE packing at routine rounds.

About brand
Bray International is the Houston-based maker of butterfly valves, knife gate and slurry valves, actuators and valve controls. It was incorporated in Houston on 23 April 1986, founded by Craig C. Brown and Frank J. Raymond, and assembled its first butterfly valves in 1987. Among them were the Series 20/21, 30/31 and 35/36 resilient-seated valves that are still in its range.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Bray valves, actuators, positioners and switch boxes, and supply complete automated valve packages and spare parts to water, oil and gas and process plants in Oman and the GCC.

The butterfly valve type follows the duty. Resilient-seated valves seal on a rubber liner, which makes them economical and bubble-tight for water and utilities. High-performance valves use an offset disc and a PTFE or metal seat for higher pressures and temperatures. Triple-offset valves add a third geometric offset so the disc meets the seat without rubbing, which allows a metal-to-metal, zero-leakage seal in steam and hydrocarbon service.
Where Bray valves are used
In Oman and the GCC, Bray valves and actuators are used in water transmission and distribution, desalination and wastewater plants, district cooling and HVAC, petrochemical and chemical plants, power stations and mining and slurry lines.
Ordering Bray valves: what we need
Send the series, size (NPS or DN), end connection (wafer, lug or flanged), body, disc and seat materials, and the medium, pressure and temperature. For actuated valves, add the actuator type (double-acting or spring return), air or electric supply, and any positioner or switch box needed.

FAQ
Questions about the Bray Flow-Tek S80 Two-Piece Threaded Stainless Ball
Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.
01What is the pressure rating of the Bray Series S80 ball valve?
The datasheet lists 1000 psi WOG (69 bar) and a steam rating of 150 psi WSP (10.3 bar), with a temperature range of -50°F to +450°F (-46°C to +232°C). The working pressure drops at higher temperatures on the RPTFE curve.
02Is the S80 a two-piece or three-piece valve?
It is a two-piece full port valve made from investment cast CF8M stainless steel. Because both ends are threaded, it is normally replaced in the line rather than opened for repair.
03What thread types are available on the S80?
The datasheet lists NPT, BSPT and BSPP threaded end connections. The thread standard should be given in the RFQ, since it must match the pipe and fittings.
04What are the seat and seal materials of the S80?
The seats, body seal and stem packing are RPTFE. The datasheet also lists a PTFE-family thrust washer and stainless steel gland nut, handle and locking device.
05Which standards apply to the Series S80?
The datasheet lists MSS SP-110 for design, MSS SP-55 for castings, MSS SP-61 for pressure testing, ASME B1.20.1 for pipe threads and API 598 for inspection and testing.
