Operating Principle of the Biffi OLGA-H

The Biffi OLGA-H converts hydraulic fluid pressure into rotary output torque through the same scotch-yoke geometry used across the Biffi actuator range, scaled up in bore diameter and stroke length to handle the much higher working pressures of a hydraulic power system. Pressurized hydraulic oil, supplied from a dedicated hydraulic power unit (HPU) or a centralized hydraulic supply header, drives opposing pistons along the cylinder bore; the piston rods engage rollers running in a slotted yoke keyed to the output shaft, converting linear thrust into 90° rotary motion exactly as in the pneumatic ALGA, but at a torque scale suited to valves that a pneumatic actuator of practical size could not drive.

Because hydraulic fluid is essentially incompressible, the OLGA-H also delivers precise, controllable stroke speed independent of load, and can be fitted with flow-control valves to set independent opening and closing speeds – a capability that matters for large-bore valves where rapid closure can generate damaging surge pressure in the pipeline.
