Hattersley Fig. 116 and 116EXT Bronze Full Bore Ball Valve PN25
Description
Full bore bronze ball valve with quarter-turn lever
The Hattersley Fig. 116 is a threaded-end bronze ball valve with a 90 degree lever, rated PN25. The Fig. 116EXT is the same valve with an extended stem housing, which lifts the lever clear of pipe insulation. The data sheet describes a robust design for long, trouble-free service, a light and compact body, a full bore to maintain flow with minimum turbulence, a chrome-plated ball, PTFE seats and stem seals and tight shut-off.
An anti-blow-out stem is listed under the specification, and the lever carries a PVC cover. End connections are taper threaded to BS EN 10226-2 for the UK or ANSI B1.20.1 for the US.
Features
- Full bore, chrome-plated ball for minimum turbulence
- Quarter turn lever operation
- PTFE seat rings, packing and seals; tight shut-off
- Anti-blow-out stem
- Fig. 116EXT with extension housing for insulated pipework

The printed Kv values rise from 31 at 1/2 inch to 420 at 2 inch. The step between 1 1/4 inch (Kv 102) and 1 1/2 inch (Kv 375) is large; check the figures on the data sheet before using them for sizing calculations.
Selection and ordering guide
Choose the 116 for standard pipework and the 116EXT where insulation is thick, for instance on chilled water lines, since C1 gives about 50 to 70 mm more height to the lever pivot than C (derived from the printed C and C1 values). Specify the thread form, BS taper or ANSI taper, with the size. The 25 bar rating drops to 10.5 bar at 186 C, so steam use needs a pressure check against the curve. PTFE seats are not intended for abrasive media, which is general knowledge.
Operation and installation notes
A quarter-turn lever gives immediate position indication, with the lever parallel to the pipe when open. Use thread sealant suited to the service, avoid over-tightening on the body, and support the pipe so the lever does not carry load. The sheet prints no torque values or installation text.
Applications
Small ball valves are the common isolating valve on plant-room branches, instrument connections, drains and vents. In the Gulf, bronze ball valves with PTFE seats are specified in cooling water, compressed air and general utility lines; confirm gas service limits with Hattersley as the sheet prints no medium group restriction.
How the 116 and 116EXT compare with the Fig. 13 and C31
The ball valve is the only quarter-turn valve among the screwed bronze valves in this selection, with 25 bar at 100 C against 32 bar for the globe and 16 bar for the gate. The key operational differences from the data sheets are the full bore (no flow restriction other than friction), the quarter-turn lever (indicating position) and PTFE seats. A gate valve has an inside screw and double O-rings; a globe valve throttles but with higher pressure drop.
For flow control, the globe valve is more suitable than a ball valve because a ball valve controls poorly in the partly open position, which is general practice. For isolation of chilled water, domestic hot water and compressed air branches, the ball valve is quick to operate and light. The EXT version adds roughly 50 to 70 mm of lever height from the printed C1 and C dimensions, enough for thin pipe insulation.
Specification checklist before ordering
Confirm the size from 1/2 to 2 inch, the thread standard (BS EN 10226-2 or ANSI B1.20.1), the Fig. 116 or 116EXT form, the working pressure of 25 bar from -10 to 100 C and the medium. The sheet gives 10.5 bar at 186 C, so hot-service use needs the curve checked. Choose the 116EXT whenever the pipe is insulated, since the extended housing keeps the lever clear.
Handling and storage
Store the valves with the ball slightly open or in the position recommended in the literature, keep threads protected, and avoid using the lever as a lifting point or lever for tightening into fittings.
Information needed for a quotation
Send the figure number, size, thread, quantity, delivery location in Oman or the GCC and the pressure, temperature and medium.
Documents and supply information
The manufacturer data sheet is attached to this page and should be read together with any project specification before a purchase is confirmed. Material grades, test pressures and dimensions are quoted exactly as printed on that sheet. Lead time, stock position and certificates available with the shipment are confirmed in the quotation, and we supply to Oman and the wider GCC region for industrial, utility and building services projects.

About brand
Hattersley is a British valve brand whose origins date back to 1897, when 20-year-old Richard Hattersley started a small tool-making business in Halifax. The business later moved to Ormskirk, became a public company in 1936 and merged with Peglers in 1968 to form Pegler-Hattersley. In 2004 Crane Limited bought the Hattersley valve business, and the brand is now part of Crane Building Services & Utilities.
