Advantech ADAM-4150 Robust 15-Channel Digital I/O Module with Modbus

Description

Fifteen digital channels on one RS-485 module

The Advantech ADAM-4150 is a robust 15-channel digital I/O module from the ADAM-4000 family of RS-485 remote I/O. It provides seven digital inputs and eight digital outputs on plug-in terminal blocks and talks to a host over RS-485 using ASCII commands or Modbus/RTU. The B version adds a micro USB port next to the RS-485 interface for configuration.

Beyond simple on/off sensing, the inputs can be used as a 3 kHz counter (32-bit plus a 1-bit overflow) or a 3 kHz frequency input, and the open-collector outputs support 1 kHz pulse output and both high-to-low and low-to-high delay output. That makes one module useful for pulse metering, flow switches, alarm collection and the control of small relays and indicators.

The datasheet is shared with the ADAM-4118 thermocouple module and the ADAM-4168 relay module; this page covers only the ADAM-4150 values.

Ordering and selection notes

The ordering code in the datasheet is ADAM-4150-C: Robust 15-ch Digital I/O Module with Modbus. For other signal types, the same sheet lists the 8-channel thermocouple module ADAM-4118-C and the 8-channel relay output module ADAM-4168-C. On this site, other Advantech remote I/O includes ADAM-4017+ analog input and ADAM-6050 Ethernet digital I/O.

When choosing between a counter and a plain input, remember that the counter and frequency functions are rated at 3 kHz. Wet-contact inputs need a source between 10 and 30 V, while dry contacts are detected by closing to ground.

What to confirm before ordering

Check the sensor type (dry or wet contact), the load on each output against the 0.1 A per channel limit, the supply voltage and whether a USB-equipped B version is needed for commissioning. Confirm the RS-485 address and baud rate plan for the network before installation.

About brand

ADAM modules are how many instrument and SCADA engineers first come across Advantech. The Taiwanese company, founded in 1983 and based in Taipei, makes industrial computers, remote I/O and communication hardware. Seven Star LLC supplies Advantech automation products to system integrators and plant teams in Oman, and this page lists items such as an ADAM-6000 Ethernet I/O module, an ADAM-4000 serial converter and an IPC rackmount chassis.

Advantech ADAM and IPC products listed here

The ADAM-6017 is an 8-channel analog input module from the ADAM-6000 Ethernet I/O family. It brings voltage and current signals onto a network and is read by SCADA or PLC software over Modbus TCP. The ADAM-4520 belongs to the ADAM-4000 serial family and converts RS-232 to isolated RS-422 or RS-485, a common fix for linking a PC or panel to field devices. The IPC-623 is a 4U, 20-slot rackmount chassis that houses a backplane, CPU card and expansion cards for control room computers.

Ordering Advantech hardware: what we need

Send the full part number with its suffix. Advantech adds letters after the model, as in ADAM-6017-D, to mark the hardware revision, and existing configurations sometimes depend on it. For an IPC chassis, state the backplane, power supply and drive bay arrangement, since these are ordered as specific versions. We supply across the GCC and check part numbers against Advantech documentation.
