Advantech EKI-5710E 10-Port Managed Industrial Ethernet Switch with SFP Option

A compact managed switch with X-Ring Pro redundancy and a security pack

The Advantech EKI-5710E series is a slim managed industrial Ethernet switch with up to ten Fast Ethernet ports and two SFP positions. In the datasheet it is offered as a 10-port RJ45 model and as an 8 x RJ45 plus 2 x 100/1000 SFP model, and the wide-temperature codes work from -40 to 75 degrees C.

The main features are X-Ring Pro ring redundancy with recovery in under 20 ms, RSTP/STP (802.1w/1D), MSTP and ERPS (G.8032); the IXM function for faster deployment; and a security pack covering 802.1X, ACL, RADIUS, TACACS+, MAB authentication, SNMPv3, HTTPS, SSH and SFTP. Management is by SNMP v1/v2c/v3, web, Telnet and standard and private MIBs, and the unit supports a network management system for remote monitoring. It lists conformity to IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2.

The datasheet carries a note that the document is a preliminary version and has not been finalized, so values can change without notification. Confirm figures with Advantech before ordering.

Ordering codes and choosing the variant

The ordering table lists EKI-5710E-I-A, the 10FE port managed switch for wide temperature, and EKI-5710E-2FI-A, the 8FE plus two SFP port managed switch for wide temperature. Choose the SFP version when a fibre or Gigabit uplink is needed; the datasheet recommends specific SFP modules for 100BASE fibre use. For an SFP copper module the switch supports only its highest transmit rate.

The two switches have dual power inputs and a relay output for alarm signalling, so they can be wired to a PLC input to report a power or link fault. Port LEDs show link, speed and activity, and system LEDs show power, ring master and alarm.

What to confirm before ordering

Ask for the final released datasheet because the current file is marked preliminary. Confirm the exact code (-I or -2FI), the SFP modules and fibre type, the supply voltage and the redundancy protocol used by the rest of the ring.

How the Advantech EKI-5710E works

The switch learns the address of each device on its ports and forwards frames only to the right port. In a ring, X-Ring Pro keeps one link in reserve. If a cable breaks, the switch opens the reserve link and traffic resumes in under 20 ms. The switch is set up through the web page, SSH or SNMP.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the EKI-5710E

Clip the switch on a DIN rail or fix it to the wall. Wire both power inputs, so one can back up the other. Connect the relay to the alarm circuit if needed. Set the IP address through the console or the web page. Confirm the ring recovery by unplugging a link. Keep a copy of the configuration.
