Advantech ADAM-4017+ 8-Channel Analog Input Module RS-485

Description

An 8-channel analog input module for RS-485 Modbus networks

The Advantech ADAM-4017+ is an 8-channel differential analog input module from the ADAM-4000 RS-485 remote I/O family. It reads millivolt, volt and milliamp signals and returns them over RS-485 using either the ADAM ASCII command set or Modbus/RTU, so a PLC, SCADA gateway or PC can poll field signals such as 4-20 mA transmitters from one two-wire bus. Each channel can be configured independently, and a system and communication watchdog recovers the module if it hangs.

Using the ADAM-4017+ on a field bus

Set the input range for each channel to match the sensor: a 4-20 mA loop uses the current range with the module input impedance of 120 ohm, while 0 to 10 V transmitters use a voltage range. Burnout detection applies to 4 to 20 mA inputs per the datasheet. Because the module shares a datasheet with the ADAM-4018+ (thermocouple) and ADAM-4019+ (universal) variants, check the model code when ordering: the ADAM-4017+ is the voltage and current version and has no thermocouple input. The ordering information lists the part as ADAM-4017+-F. For Ethernet-based I/O see the Advantech ADAM-6017; more modules are listed under PLC and I/O cards.

Documents and quotation

The attached Advantech datasheet (last updated 22 September 2023) covers the ADAM-4017+, ADAM-4018+ and ADAM-4019+. Confirm the number of channels, input ranges, the network protocol and the supply voltage with your design before ordering, then send the quantity for a quotation.

About brand

ADAM modules are how many instrument and SCADA engineers first come across Advantech. The Taiwanese company, founded in 1983 and based in Taipei, makes industrial computers, remote I/O and communication hardware. Seven Star LLC supplies Advantech automation products to system integrators and plant teams in Oman, and this page lists items such as an ADAM-6000 Ethernet I/O module, an ADAM-4000 serial converter and an IPC rackmount chassis.

Advantech ADAM and IPC products listed here

The ADAM-6017 is an 8-channel analog input module from the ADAM-6000 Ethernet I/O family. It brings voltage and current signals onto a network and is read by SCADA or PLC software over Modbus TCP. The ADAM-4520 belongs to the ADAM-4000 serial family and converts RS-232 to isolated RS-422 or RS-485, a common fix for linking a PC or panel to field devices. The IPC-623 is a 4U, 20-slot rackmount chassis that houses a backplane, CPU card and expansion cards for control room computers.

Ordering Advantech hardware: what we need

Send the full part number with its suffix. Advantech adds letters after the model, as in ADAM-6017-D, to mark the hardware revision, and existing configurations sometimes depend on it. For an IPC chassis, state the backplane, power supply and drive bay arrangement, since these are ordered as specific versions. We supply across the GCC and check part numbers against Advantech documentation.
