Janitza UMG 508 and the UMG series
The UMG 508 is a panel-mounted power analyzer with a color graphic display. It measures the electrical quantities of a three-phase system continuously, records harmonics up to the 40th order and supply events in its own memory, and passes data to energy management or SCADA software over Ethernet and RS485. Modbus and Profibus DP are among its protocols, and Janitza GridVis software is used to set it up and read it out.

Give the Janitza item number or the full type from the rating label, since one UMG model can be made in more than one supply voltage version. Add the auxiliary voltage in the panel, the measured system voltage, current transformer secondary (1 A or 5 A), the protocol your software uses, and any current transformers or residual current sensors to be quoted with it.

How do I identify the correct Janitza UMG 508 version?
The rating label on the device carries the type, the item number and the auxiliary supply range. Devices with the same model name can be built for different auxiliary voltages, so the item number is the reference to quote. If you are replacing a unit, send a photo of the label and tell us the panel supply.
Can the Janitza UMG 508 be read by a SCADA or building management system?
Yes. The Janitza manual lists an Ethernet port with Modbus TCP and an RS485 port that can run Modbus RTU or Profibus DP, with BACnet as an option. Name the protocol and the software that will read the meter, and we will check it against the Janitza documentation for the item number before quoting.
Which current transformers does a Janitza UMG need?
UMG devices measure current through external current transformers with a 1 A or 5 A secondary. The primary rating and accuracy class are chosen for the feeder, not for the meter. Give us the feeder current, busbar or cable size and the accuracy class required, and transformers can be quoted together with the measuring device.
