Woodward easYgen-3500XT Genset and Breaker Controller
Description
A genset and breaker controller that combines synchronising, protection and load control
The Woodward easYgen-3500XT belongs to the easYgen-3000XT series of genset controllers and is offered in Package 1 and Package 2 hardware. One device combines generator, mains and busbar synchronising, engine, generator and mains protection, an integral AVR interface, configurable PIDs, and load, import/export and power factor control, so a separate PLC is often not needed for plant logic. It supports run-up synchronisation and black start, generator-group breaker control, three CAN bus ports and three Ethernet Modbus TCP ports. Woodward describes conformal coating, galvanic isolation, redundant communication and multi-master operation so the standby controller can take over without engine spin-down.

Ordering codes and package differences
Package 2 adds the larger I/O count, 3-phase busbar voltage measurement, busbar phase rotation and interface expansion; both packages include run-up and black start, group-breaker control, 600 VAC input range and integral AVR control. The Product Specification lists these part numbers for the 3400/3500 columns:
| Version | Package 1 | Package 2 | Rental Functions (P1 / P2) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Back-panel mounted | 8440-2084 | 8440-2087 | 8440-2287 / 8440-2289 |
| With display | 8440-2085 | 8440-2088 | 8440-2283 / 8440-2290 |
| Low temperature display | 8440-2086 | 8440-2089 | 8440-2288 / 8440-2291 |
Rental Functions add billing counters and switchable parameter sets for mobile genset fleets. The Low Temperature option has a heated display for operation to -40 degrees C.
Selection and documents
Protection functions listed include ANSI 59/27/81O/81U, 32/32R, 46, 50, 51, 25 and ROCOF (78), with engine overspeed, underspeed and D+ failure. Confirm the number of breakers, voltage level, CT ratio, display need and fieldbus, and quote the exact 8440 part number. Woodward lists easYview displays, IKD expansion boards, LS-5 and LS-6XT breaker controllers and ToolKit software as accessories. Other Woodward controls on this site include the Woodward SPM-D10, and more are under Controllers and Data Acquisition. The attached Product Specification 45027 A contains the full comparison and I/O tables.

About brand
Speed, load and fuel control for engines and turbines is Woodward's field. The company dates from 1870 and is based in Fort Collins, USA, and its controls sit on steam turbines, gas engines and generator sets in power plants and oil and gas sites. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Woodward turbine controls, synchronizers and gas fuel valves for operators in Oman and the GCC, working from the part number on the unit.
Woodward products listed
Three items show the spread of the industrial line. The 505XT is a digital control for industrial steam turbines with a single valve or single extraction/admission. The SPM-D10 is a synchronizing unit that matches a generator to a bus before the breaker closes. The TecJet 50 Plus is a gas fuel control valve with built-in actuator and electronics, used to meter fuel on gas engines.
Ordering Woodward parts: what we need
Woodward identifies hardware by a part number in two digit groups, such as 8440-1667 for one SPM-D10 version, printed on the nameplate with a revision letter and serial number. Send all three. For a 505XT, add the supply voltage version and whether the turbine has extraction or admission. For a synchronizer, give the measuring voltage and the exact SPM-D10 variant. For a TecJet, state the fuel gas, flow size and engine control signal.
