ABB ACS880-01-246A-3 Wall-Mounted Drive 132 kW 246 A

Description

Where the ACS880-01-246A-3 fits

In the ACS880-01 range the ACS880-01-246A-3 is the type that ABB rates for 132 kW at 400 V. It is a frame R8 unit rated 132 kW and 246 A. Engineers specify this size for water-works main pumps and large fans and blowers. Because the choke and Safe Torque Off are already inside, the drive can be mounted on the wall without extra filter hardware.

Sizing and installing the ACS880-01-246A-3

ABB gives 234 A (132 kW) for light overload use and 206 A (110 kW) for heavy duty, against a nominal 246 A and a peak of 350 A. Choose light overload for variable-torque loads such as pumps and fans, and heavy duty for constant-torque machines with high breakaway torque. Start from the motor nameplate current, then verify derating for temperature, altitude and switching frequency.

Wall space needed for IP21 is 300 mm by 963 mm (cable box included), 386 mm deep, with a weight of 68 kg. For harsher rooms ABB offers IP55 at 963 x 300 x 452 mm and 74 kg. Heat dissipation is 3026 W at 90% frequency and full motor current, with 550 m3/h of cooling air and 68 dB(A) of noise.

Braking, filters and options

For braking, the chopper is a selectable internal option, order code +D150. ABB lists the SAFUR200F500 resistor of 2.7 ohm and 5400 kJ at 132 kW, and a minimum resistance of 2.3 ohm. The EMC filter options are +E202 (C2), +E200 (C3) and +E201 (C3 on ungrounded supplies); the base drive is C4. For long cables, submersible pumps or noise reduction, ABB lists the B84143V0230S229 sine filter (209 A, 110 kW).

Standard I/O is 6 digital inputs, 2 DIO, 2 analog inputs, 2 analog outputs and 3 relay outputs, plus STO and the RS485 link. Fieldbus adapters, extra I/O, encoder interfaces and safety modules fit into the three option slots.

About brand

ABB is the Swiss-Swedish engineering group for electrification and automation: low voltage drives, motors, circuit breakers and motor control, process instruments and analysers, control systems and robots. It was formed on 5 January 1988 by the merger of two older companies. ASEA was founded in Västerås, Sweden, in 1883 by Ludvig Fredholm to make electric lighting and generators. BBC Brown Boveri was founded in Baden near Zurich in 1891 by Charles E. L. Brown and Walter Boveri. ABB Ltd is incorporated in Switzerland, headquartered in Zurich and listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and Nasdaq Stockholm.

Choosing an ABB drive

ABB's ACS drive codes are easy to read once you know the pattern. In ACS580-01-046A-4, "ACS580" is the drive family, "01" means a wall-mounted single drive, "046A" is the rated output current (about 46 A) and "-4" means a 380–480 V supply. The family is chosen by application: ACS355 for compact machinery, ACS310 for simple pumps and fans, ACS580 as the general-purpose drive, ACQ580 for water and wastewater with pump functions such as pipe fill and dry-run protection, and ACS880 for heavy industrial duty with direct torque control. Size the drive on the motor's full-load current, not only its kW rating, and allow derating for the high ambient temperatures common in Gulf electrical rooms.

Where ABB products are used

In Oman and the GCC, ABB drives and motors run pumps, fans and compressors in water and wastewater plants, district cooling, oil and gas and industry. ABB flowmeters, level instruments and analysers are used in water utilities, power and desalination plants and refineries, and SACE breakers protect switchboards in buildings and plants.
