Schneider Electric LC1D25M7 25 A TeSys Deca Contactor, 220 V AC

Description

LC1D25M7 TeSys Deca contactor: what it is and how the code reads

The LC1D25M7 is a Schneider Electric product described in the datasheet as: IEC contactor, TeSys Deca, nonreversing, 25A, 15HP at 480VAC, up to 100kA SCCR, 3 phase, 3 NO, 220VAC 50/60Hz coil, open. The LC1D family is the TeSys Deca contactor line for switching motors and resistive loads in industrial panels. Seven Star LLC supplies the LC1D25M7 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier based in Muscat.

Decoding the reference: LC1D is the TeSys Deca contactor family; the digits (25M7) identify the current size, and the suffix letters identify the control-coil voltage and type, which the datasheet states as 220 V AC 50/60 Hz. Because many coil-voltage versions exist for each size, quote the full reference rather than the size alone.

How the LC1D25M7 switches and which category applies

A contactor closes three power poles with an electromagnet when the coil is energised and opens them under spring force when it is released. The LC1D25M7 is a 3P device with 3 NO power contacts, and the coil voltage is 220 V AC 50/60 Hz. Choosing the coil voltage to match the control supply avoids interposing relays.

Contactor ratings depend on the utilisation category. The datasheet lists AC-3; AC-3e; AC-1; AC-4 for the LC1D25M7. AC-3 covers squirrel-cage motor starting and switching off during running, AC-1 covers non-inductive or slightly inductive loads, and AC-4 covers plugging and inching, where contact wear is much higher. The rated current 25 A (at <60 °C) at <= 440 V AC AC-3 for power circuit; 40 A (at <60 °C) at <= 440 V AC AC-1 for power circuit applies to the stated category, so verify the category of your duty before accepting a size.

Where the LC1D25M7 fits in a motor starter

In a direct-on-line starter the LC1D25M7 sits between the motor protective device and the motor. A thermal overload relay of the TeSys LRD family or a motor circuit breaker of the GV2ME family typically supplies overload and short-circuit protection, and the contactor performs the switching. Auxiliary contacts can be added to signal state to a PLC.

Siblings in the family, such as LC1D09BD, LC1D12M7, LC1D32M7, LC1D40AM7, LC1D65AM7, LC1D80M7, differ by current rating, coil voltage and mounting size. The LC1D25M7 has dimensions of 45 mm (W) x 85 mm (H) x 92 mm (D) and weighs 0.37 kg, so confirm panel space before substituting a different size.

Selection and ordering checklist for the LC1D25M7

  • Motor power and voltage: compare with the AC-3 ratings listed for the LC1D25M7 (5.5 kW at 220/230 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3); 11 kW at 380/400 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3); 11 kW at 415/440 V AC 50/60 Hz (AC-3)).
  • Control voltage: the coil of the LC1D25M7 is 220 V AC 50/60 Hz; AC and DC coils are not interchangeable.
  • Duty: frequent starts, inching or plugging need an AC-4 check and usually a larger size.
  • Short-circuit protection: use the associated fuse ratings in the datasheet (10 A gG for signalling circuit conforming to IEC 60947-5-1; 63 A gG at <= 690 V coordination type 1 for power circuit).
  • Accessories: auxiliary contact blocks, surge suppressors and mechanical interlocks must be ordered separately.
  • Ambient: the datasheet gives for operation.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the LC1D25M7

Fix the contactor on a rail or plate in the orientation allowed by the manufacturer, keep the clearances for heat dissipation, and tighten power and control terminals to the datasheet torque. Connect the coil through the control fuse or breaker rather than directly from a long cable run, and fit a surge suppressor where the coil is switched by PLC outputs.

Maintenance is mostly visual and thermal: look for discoloured terminals, listen for coil hum or chatter that suggests low control voltage, and check contact wear on motors that start often. In dusty or warm Omani substations an enclosure with filtered ventilation and annual cleaning keeps the LC1D25M7 within its temperature range.

Typical applications of the LC1D25M7 in Oman and the GCC

The LC1D25M7 is used to switch pumps, fans, compressors, conveyors and heating loads in water and wastewater plants, desalination auxiliaries, oil and gas utilities, ventilation and general industrial motor control centres across Oman and the GCC. In these installations the contactor is a high-cycle wear item, so stocking a matching spare is usual practice.

About brand

Schneider Electric is the French group for energy management and industrial automation: low and medium voltage switchgear and circuit breakers, motor control, drives, PLCs, power monitoring, UPS systems and building management. Its history goes back to 1836, when the brothers Adolphe and Eugène Schneider took over the iron and steel works at Le Creusot in Burgundy. Over the 20th century the company left steel and heavy engineering and became an electrical group through acquisitions such as Merlin Gerin, Télémécanique, Square D and Modicon. Its head office is in Rueil-Malmaison near Paris, and its shares are listed on Euronext Paris.

Milestones

  • 1836: The Schneider brothers acquire the Le Creusot works; the business grows in steel, locomotives and heavy engineering.
  • 1975: First investment in Merlin Gerin, a French maker of electrical distribution equipment.
  • 1988–1992: Télémécanique, Square D (USA) and Merlin Gerin join the group, making it an electrical specialist.
  • 1997: Modicon, the company behind the first programmable logic controller, joins the group.
  • 1999: The group takes the name Schneider Electric.
  • 2007 and 2014: APC (UPS and data centre power) and Invensys (process automation) are acquired.

Choosing Schneider Electric breakers and motor control

Circuit breakers are chosen by current and breaking capacity. Acti9 miniature circuit breakers (iC60, C120) protect final circuits up to 125 A. ComPacT NSX molded case breakers cover about 16 to 630 A, and the letter after the frame size sets the breaking capacity: B, F, N, H, S, L from lowest to highest. MasterPacT air circuit breakers are used as main incomers on large switchboards. For motors, a TeSys contactor with an LRD overload relay or a GV2 motor circuit breaker suits direct starting, an Altistart soft starter reduces starting current, and an Altivar drive controls speed. The breaking capacity must always be at least the prospective short-circuit current at the point of installation.

Where Schneider Electric products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Schneider Electric equipment is found in main and sub-main switchboards of commercial and residential buildings, motor control centres in water, oil and gas and industrial plants, substations protected by Sepam and Easergy relays, data centres powered by Galaxy and APC UPS systems, and buildings controlled by EcoStruxure Building Operation.

APC by Schneider Electric: UPS and critical power

Since 2007, APC has been part of Schneider Electric and is now its product brand for uninterruptible power supplies, replacement batteries, battery packs, network management cards and rack power distribution. Our APC catalogue covers Smart-UPS line-interactive and on-line models, Easy UPS On-Line, the modular Symmetra LX, RM and PX ranges, Silcon three-phase systems and their spare part kits, and the RBC cartridges that keep them running. Schneider Electric breakers, drives and PLCs can be quoted together with APC UPS systems in one request.

Ordering Schneider Electric products: what we need

Send the commercial reference from the label (for example LC1D18M7 or ATV320U22N4C). For breakers, confirm the rated current, number of poles, breaking capacity and trip unit. For contactors, give the coil voltage. For drives, give the motor power and supply voltage. APC products are listed on their own brand page.
