Danfoss MBS 8200 and 8250 Heavy-Duty Pressure Transmitter

Description

MBS 8200 and MBS 8250 heavy-duty pressure transmitters

The Danfoss MBS 8200 is a compact pressure transmitter built for the pulsations and vibration of industrial and mobile hydraulic systems, and the MBS 8250 is the same sensor with an integrated pulse snubber for cavitation, liquid hammer and pressure peaks. A piezo-resistive element and a programmable-gain amplifier give ±0.5 % FS accuracy, output clipping at overpressure and immunity to electromagnetic fields up to 100 V/m. Seven Star LLC supplies the MBS 8200 series in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat; this page explains the ordering code and what to confirm for a quotation.

How the sensor and pulse snubber work

A piezo-resistive silicon element changes resistance with pressure, and a digital amplifier with programmable gain compensates the signal over temperature. The sensor limits its output at excess pressure, which maintains a predictable signal for the controller, and it signals faults through its output. In the MBS 8250 a pulse snubber in the pressure port damps rapid pressure spikes before they reach the sensing element, protecting it from cavitation, liquid hammer and valve closing events, which can occur even at modest working pressures. The viscosity of the medium has little effect on response time, and the datasheet states that at 100 cSt the response does not exceed 4 ms.

Where the MBS 8200 fits among related transmitters

The MBS 8200 sits in the heavy-duty hydraulic family of the Danfoss industrial range. For general-purpose industrial service the MBS 3000 series is the usual alternative, the MBS 1600 targets plastics and hydraulic injection systems, and the MBS 9300 covers low millibar ranges for marine engines. The MBS 8200 is chosen when high pressure (up to 600 bar or 9000 psi), strong vibration or a hot medium up to 125 °C is the main concern. Because the range code is built into the type string, a replacement must match range, reference, output and connector, not only the series name.

Selection and ordering checklist

  • Pressure range, with working pressure well below full scale and the overload limit noted.
  • Standard MBS 8200 or MBS 8250 with snubber if spikes or cavitation are expected.
  • Gauge or absolute reference and 4–20 mA or ratiometric output.
  • Pressure connection thread and sealing: G¼ with gasket, NPT, UNF or M14 x 1.5.
  • Electrical connector and ambient temperature range for that connector.
  • Hazardous-area approvals required against those listed for the transmitter.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance

Fit the sensor with the recommended tightening torque, 30 to 35 Nm for the G¼ and 7/16 UNF connections, using the correct gasket or O-ring. Keep the connector orientation clear of drip and moisture, and verify the loop supply voltage so that load resistance does not exceed (supply − 9 V) / 0.02 A on 4–20 mA versions. After installation check zero at atmospheric pressure for gauge types and confirm the output at a known pressure.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

These transmitters are used on hydraulic power units, press and injection systems, mobile and crane hydraulics, compressor and pump skids, and test benches in oil and gas, power and heavy industry. In the Gulf the compact stainless body and wide media temperature range suit hot machine rooms, and the snubber version protects the sensor on lines with fast-closing valves.

Information to send with an RFQ

  • Complete MBS 82.. code or range, output and connection.
  • Standard or pulse-snubber version.
  • Media, temperature and pressure peaks.
  • Connector type and cable requirement.
  • Quantity and delivery location in Oman or the GCC.

Site conditions in Oman for the MBS 8200

Field instruments in Oman are exposed to strong sun, high ambient temperature, wind-blown dust and, on coastal plants, salt in the air. When you specify the MBS 8200, check the ambient and process temperature limits, the enclosure rating and the wetted and housing materials against the actual installation point, and consider sunshades for transmitters mounted in direct sunlight. Cable entries should be sealed with suitable glands so that dust and moisture cannot enter the housing.

Calibration and verification planning matters as much as selection. Record the range, configuration and tag data of each MBS 8200 at commissioning, define a check interval that suits the criticality of the loop, and keep the certificates with the plant documentation so that audits and shutdown work can proceed without delay.

About brand

Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.

Where Danfoss products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.
