Telwin Supermig 500i XD Multi-Process Inverter Welding Machine
Extra-duty multi-process inverter for site and workshop
The Telwin Supermig 500i XD, code 816201 is a three-phase inverter power source from the Supermig i range. XD stands for Extra Duty: Telwin rates this model at 400 A at 60% duty cycle for continuous and heavy work. On its own it welds MMA in direct and pulsed current, TIG DC with lift ignition, and gouging with carbon electrodes. With an external wire feeder, or in CV mode, it is used for MIG-MAG and flux-cored wire.
Telwin designed it for cellulosic electrodes as well as rutile, basic, stainless steel, cast iron and aluminium (E4043) coated electrodes. The pulsed MMA mode is recommended with basic electrodes for positional welding.

Construction and protections
The ventilation air runs through a dedicated tunnel so that dirt and dust are kept away from the electronic components. Telwin states that the machine maintains its performance with mains undervoltage down to -25% and overvoltage up to +15%, and it includes thermostatic, overcurrent and generator protections. Hot start and arc force are adjustable in MMA, anti-stick protection and a VRD device are fitted, and welding voltage and current are shown on a backlit LCD.
The power source is supplied with a work cable and clamp. The supply is automatically detected between 230 V and 400 V three-phase.
Selecting a Supermig 500i XD package
According to the Supermig i brochure, MIG-MAG and flux-cored welding can run in synergic mode, where the welder selects the material thickness, or in manual mode. The machine works either with a wire feeder unit or in CV mode. Changing from wire welding to gouging means selecting the process on the panel and connecting the dedicated accessory, so one power source can cover welding, back-gouging and repair work on the same job.
Telwin sells the 816201 power source alone or as packs: 816910 Pack, 816912 Pack + Trolley and 816911 Pack Aqua + Trolley, which add the wire feeder and, for Aqua, water cooling. Optional accessories listed for 816201 include the TS 550 wire feeder with 4 m cable, the GRA 2700 water cooling unit, MT500 and MT555 DC water-cooled MIG torches, an electrode holder, a gouging kit and trolleys. Decide first whether the work is mainly electrode and gouging, or whether wire welding is needed, then choose the code.
