Hypertherm Powermax85 SYNC Plasma Cutting System
Description
85 A plasma for 25 mm production cutting and gouging
The Powermax85 SYNC is an 85 A air plasma system aimed at fabrication shops, truck and trailer builders, tank and vessel fabricators, rail workshops and demolition crews. Hypertherm rates it for 25 mm (1 in) recommended cutting at 500 mm/min and 38 mm (1-1/2 in) severance, with a typical gouging removal rate of 8.2 kg per hour. Like the rest of the SYNC range it uses single-piece cartridges; the SmartSYNC torch identifies the cartridge, sets the current and mode, and allows amperage to be adjusted from the torch.
Torch output is 12.2 kW (85 A at 143 V). End-of-life detection tells the operator when the cartridge needs changing, and cartridge usage data can be read for consumption tracking.

Hand, machine and combined set-ups
Each region has three power supply builds: standard, with CPC port and voltage divider, and with CPC port, voltage divider and serial port. The last two are needed when the system is connected to a CNC table or a torch height control, because the divided arc voltage drives height control and the CPC carries start and transfer signals. Standard systems ship with a 75° hand torch on 7.6 m or 15.2 m leads; mechanized systems use a 180° machine torch on 7.6, 10.7 or 15.2 m leads, and combined packages include both torches.
On the CSA unit the supply voltage changes duty cycle: at 240 V single phase the 85 A rating drops to 50%, and on 200–208 V single phase to 40%. For site work the 25 kVA engine-drive figure is a minimum; undersized generators cause voltage dips and arc outages at full current.
Air consumption of about 210 l/min means the compressor must keep up during long cuts, and the air must be dry and oil-free to protect cartridge life.

About brand
Plasma cutting is the field Hypertherm has worked in since 1968, from Hanover, New Hampshire, USA. Its systems range from air plasma units carried by hand to mechanized plasma for CNC tables, backed by CNC controls, nesting software and torch consumables.
Seven Star LLC lists Hypertherm plasma cutting systems from the Powermax, HPR and XPR families and supplies them to fabricators and maintenance shops in Oman.
Hypertherm plasma families listed here
The number in each Hypertherm model name is its output current class in amperes:- Powermax30 XP and Powermax125: air plasma systems, from portable to heavy duty
- Powermax65 SYNC and Powermax105 SYNC: the SYNC generation of Powermax
- HPR400XD: HyPerformance mechanized plasma
- XPR300: X-Definition mechanized plasma
Where Hypertherm systems are used
Hypertherm names heavy equipment, industrial pressure vessels, job shops, steel service centers, shipbuilding and structural steel as its main industries. Powermax units are used for hand cutting and gouging in workshops and on site, and can also be run on a cutting table with a machine torch. HPR and XPR systems are built into CNC machines for production cutting of plate, a common setup in GCC fabrication yards.Ordering Hypertherm equipment and consumables: what we need
For a system, send the model, the input voltage and phases at your site, the torch type (hand or machine) and the lead length. Hypertherm sells most systems under a configuration part number, so send that number if you have it. For consumables, send the system model, the torch model, the cutting current and the process (cutting, gouging, shielded or fine cut), or simply the part numbers printed on the old parts. For mechanized systems, tell us the make of the cutting table and CNC.Related products
