Endress+Hauser Promag P 300 Electromagnetic Flowmeter

Description

Overview of the Endress+Hauser Promag P 300

The Endress+Hauser Promag P 300 is a compact electromagnetic flowmeter from the Proline 300 family, dedicated to chemical and process applications with corrosive and hot liquids. The sensor is available from DN 15 to 600 (½ to 24 in) with a PTFE liner, or with a PFA liner from DN 25 to 200 for medium temperatures up to +150 °C, and up to +180 °C in the high-temperature PFA version. Technical Information TI01224D lists a maximum measurement error of ±0.5 % of reading, or ±0.2 % as an option, and an operable flow range of more than 1000:1.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Endress+Hauser Promag P 300 to chemical plants, refineries, fertiliser and petrochemical producers and water treatment contractors across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. The compact dual-compartment transmitter mounted on the sensor makes it a practical choice where the measuring point is accessible and a separate wall-mounted transmitter is not needed.

Measuring Principle of the Endress+Hauser Promag P 300

The Endress+Hauser Promag P 300 uses Faraday’s law of magnetic induction: a voltage is induced in a conductor moving through a magnetic field. In the flowmeter the flowing liquid is the conductor, so the induced voltage Ue = B · L · v is proportional to the flow velocity and is picked up by two measuring electrodes. The volume flow follows from Q = A · v, and the magnetic field is created by a switched direct current of alternating polarity to give a stable zero.

The bidirectional principle is virtually independent of pressure, density, temperature and viscosity, and it works for liquids with a conductivity of at least 5 µS/cm. Because the measuring tube is a full-bore lined pipe with no constriction and no moving parts, there is no pressure loss caused by the meter and no mechanical wear, which means energy-saving operation and no routine maintenance. The device can also measure the conductivity of the medium as an additional process value.

Engineering Design of the Endress+Hauser Promag P 300

Liner choice determines the duty: PTFE covers –40 to +130 °C, PFA covers –20 to +150 °C and high-temperature PFA covers –20 to +180 °C with a housing support for heat dissipation. Measuring, reference and empty pipe detection electrodes are offered in 316L, Alloy C22, tantalum, titanium and platinum, and ground disks are available in the same range of materials. Process connections include EN 1092-1 flanges from PN 10 to PN 40, ASME B16.5 Class 150 and 300, JIS B2220 and AS flanges, in stainless or carbon steel, with a fully welded sensor housing and C5-M corrosion protection as options.

The Proline 300 transmitter has a coated aluminium housing rated IP66/67, Type 4X, with a four-line illuminated display with touch control, a web server and WLAN access for operation from a phone or laptop. Power is 24 V DC or 100 to 240 V AC. Up to three inputs and outputs are freely configurable, including 4–20 mA HART, pulse, frequency and switch outputs, current input and status input, and the Endress+Hauser Promag P 300 also supports PROFIBUS PA and DP, FOUNDATION Fieldbus, Modbus RS485, EtherNet/IP, PROFINET and Ethernet-APL.

Industrial Applications of the Endress+Hauser Promag P 300

The Endress+Hauser Promag P 300 is installed on acid and caustic dosing lines, chemical transfer and loading, hot process water and condensate, cooling water, brine and slurry service, and on effluent streams that contain corrosive components. In Oman this applies to chemical dosing at desalination and water treatment plants, sulphuric acid and caustic handling in petrochemical and fertiliser units in Sohar and Sur, refinery utilities, and process lines in the Salalah and Duqm industrial zones.

Seven Star LLC supplies the meter configured to the liner, electrode, flange and I/O combination required by the process data sheet. For related selections, buyers can compare the Endress+Hauser Promag P 500 DN80 with its remote transmitter option, the earlier Promag 50P, or the Promass F300 Coriolis mass flowmeter for non-conductive liquids and direct mass measurement.

About brand
Level, flow and pressure measurement account for most of the Endress+Hauser instruments engineers ask us about, and each device is defined by the order code on its nameplate. Endress+Hauser, founded in 1953 and based in Reinach, Switzerland, builds process instrumentation for liquids, gases and bulk solids. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing Endress+Hauser (E+H) flowmeters, radar and vibronic level instruments, pressure and temperature transmitters and liquid analysis equipment for plants in Oman and the GCC.

Endress+Hauser product families on this page

Level is the largest group: Micropilot free-space radar (FMR10B, FMR62 and the FMR67 for bulk solids, all 80 GHz), Levelflex guided radar (FMP50, and the FMP55 for interface measurement), the Liquiphant FTL51 vibronic point level switch and the Prosonic S FMU90 ultrasonic transmitter. Flow covers Proline Promag electromagnetic flowmeters (Promag P 300, Promag W 400) and the Prowirl F 200 vortex meter. Pressure is represented by the Cerabar PMP51B, temperature by the iTEMP TMT82 HART transmitter. For liquid analysis the listing has the Liquiline CM444 multiparameter transmitter and Memosens sensors such as the CPS11E pH electrode.

Where Endress+Hauser instruments are used

Water and wastewater plants rely on Promag W meters, radar level and Liquiline analysis. Oil and gas, chemical and power plants specify Levelflex and Micropilot on tanks and separators, Prowirl on steam and gas, and Cerabar on process lines. Food and pharmaceutical producers use hygienic versions of the same families, and cement and mining sites use the FMR67 on silos.

Ordering Endress+Hauser instruments: what we need

Send the order code and, for a replacement, the serial number from the nameplate. The extended order code is better still, because it spells out every option. Without a code we need the medium, pressure and temperature, measuring span, process connection, wetted materials, output signal or fieldbus, power supply, display and the hazardous area approval required. For flowmeters add line size and liner, for radar the tank height and nozzle size.
