Zebra ZD421 Desktop Thermal Transfer Label Printer

Description

The Zebra ZD421 is a compact desktop printer for offices, stores, laboratories and dispatch desks that print barcode labels, tags and receipts. It prints direct thermal or thermal transfer, with ribbon either on a roll or in a cartridge, and supports ZPL II and EPL2 for compatibility with existing Zebra label formats.

Desktop labelling with industrial-grade software support

Not every labelling job needs an industrial printer. Stores bin labels, sample and test-tube labels, document-control tags, shipping labels and receipts are typically printed in modest volumes, and the ZD421 provides OpenACCESS media loading, a head-up sensor, a multi-position transmissive and full-width reflective sensor, a fan-fold media slot and support for rolls up to 5 in. (127 mm) outside diameter. Link-OS, Print Touch and a Bluetooth Low Energy set-up app (Android and iOS) are included.

Standard connectivity is USB 2.0 and USB host; Ethernet, serial and wireless (802.11ac with Bluetooth 4.1, MFi certified) are field-installable options. Healthcare models add a white disinfectant-ready housing and an IEC 60601-1 certified supply.

Selecting between ZD421 variants

The model suffix describes the print method and media: ZD421t is thermal transfer, ZD421d is direct thermal and ZD421c is the ribbon-cartridge model with a wider media range. Pick the ZD421d where labels do not need to resist heat, abrasion or chemicals, and thermal transfer with a matching ribbon where they do. Cutting through label and liner is not supported by the field-installable cutter, which is limited to continuous paper, linered label and tag stock up to 0.0075 in. thick.

Choosing the ZD421 and ordering

The ZD421 is the base desktop model. The ZD621 adds Ethernet and serial as standard, up to 8 in./s and an optional colour touch display. For heavier or 24-hour duty, move to the industrial ZT series. Confirm print method, resolution, interface option, cutter or peeler, battery, healthcare version and ribbon or media before ordering. Related items: industrial automation accessories.
