Waygate Everest Mentor Flex+ VideoProbe Video Borescope

Description

Overview

The Everest Mentor Flex+ VideoProbe is an industrial video borescope from Waygate Technologies for remote visual inspection of turbines, engines, compressors, heat exchangers, piping, vessels and other assets where direct viewing is impossible. Waygate presents the Mentor Flex+ as one system for every inspection: QuickChange interchangeable probes and optical tips, class-leading image quality with Real3D measurement, and streamlined data management through Menu Directed Inspection and automatic InspectionWorks cloud backup. The handset combines a 5.8 in. touch screen, joystick articulation, 32 GB of internal memory and a lithium-ion battery in a rugged housing tested to MIL-STD-810H.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Everest Mentor Flex+, its probes, optical tips and accessories to power generation, oil and gas, petrochemical, aviation maintenance and industrial maintenance customers in Oman and the GCC. Our Muscat team helps choose probe diameter, length and tips for the assets to be inspected, and we provide model selection support from Muscat.

Key Features of the Mentor Flex+

  • QuickChange interchangeable probes: 4.0 mm and 6.1 mm diameter probes for flexibility, plus a 6.2 mm working channel probe that Waygate calls the most complete foreign object retrieval tool system in the industry.
  • Short camera head: Waygate states the 6.1 mm probe has the shortest camera head available at that diameter, for tight bend radii with less risk of damage.
  • Real3D measurement: a fully surfaced point cloud for quantifying defects.
  • TrueSight image processing: high dynamic range, adaptive noise reduction, dark boost, color saturation and distortion correction.
  • Gravity sensor: Always-Up indicator and auto-rotate keep the image oriented.
  • High-temperature imaging: optimized image quality up to 100°C, reducing wait time for engine cooling.
  • InspectionWorks ready: Menu Directed Inspection (MDI) guides the workflow and tags data, and Push2IW saves data to the cloud for storage and reporting.

Imaging and Measurement

The Mentor Flex+ camera runs at 60 frames per second in a titanium camera housing. Mentor Flex+ image controls include invert, distortion correction, dark boost, HDR, color saturation, illumination, long exposure up to 1.5 seconds, 5x digital zoom, image rotate, auto-rotate, Always-Up and white balance. Adaptive noise reduction works on frozen frames to give a cleaner view of potential defects. Real3D measurement lets inspectors size cracks, missing material, coating loss and dents from the captured surface model, which supports disposition decisions without a second inspection. A range of optical tip adapters optimizes depth of field and direction of view.

Handset, Display and Connectivity

The integrated 5.8 in. transmissive color TFT WXGA display is daylight readable, with an optically bonded multipoint capacitive Gorilla Glass touchscreen. A joystick provides 360 degree All-Way tip articulation, menu access and navigation, and a button set gives access to measurement and digital functions. Data ports include two USB 2.0 Type A hosts and one USB-C port; video out is available through HDMI and USB-C (DisplayPort Alt-Mode) at 1080p and 60 Hz. Integrated Wi-Fi supports 2.4 and 5 GHz bands, and the Mentor Flex+ can stream video and transfer files to iOS or Android devices. Software can be updated over the air or by USB drive.

Power, Weight and Durability

The Mentor Flex+ lithium-ion battery gives about three hours of operation (10.8 V nominal, 74.5 Wh, 6.9 Ah). The unit can be powered from 100-240 VAC, 18 VDC, or USB-C Power Delivery with 60 W input. The handset alone weighs 1.6 kg; with a 6.1 mm by 2.0 m probe it weighs 2.6 kg, and with the battery 3.2 kg. System dimensions are 32 x 18 x 10 cm. The housing is magnesium, aluminium and polycarbonate with elastomeric bumpers, tested to MIL-STD-810H environmental sections and MIL-STD-461G for electromagnetic interference, and rated IP65 when assembled. The insertion tube and tip are waterproof to 1 bar. Tip operating temperature is −25 to 100°C and system operating temperature −25 to 46°C.

Mentor Flex+ Applications in Oman and the GCC

  • Gas turbine and steam turbine borescope inspections during planned outages.
  • Reciprocating engine and compressor valve inspection.
  • Heat exchanger tube, boiler tube and pipe internal inspection.
  • Weld root and internal corrosion checks in small-bore piping.
  • Foreign object search and retrieval using the 6.2 mm working channel probe.
  • Aircraft engine inspections by maintenance organizations.

Visual inspection often works alongside ultrasonic methods. Waygate ultrasonic instruments such as the Krautkramer USM 36 flaw detector, the USM Go+ flaw detector and the DM5E thickness gauge help confirm indications found with the borescope.

Service Options

Waygate offers service plans such as the Flex subscription and the Visual Care Plan to reduce downtime, so that a Mentor Flex+ is kept in the inspector’s hands rather than waiting for repair. Waygate also lists add-ons for hands-free use and improved ergonomics, which help during long turbine inspections. Seven Star LLC can advise on probe care, accessories, spare optical tips and repair logistics, and can help plan a spare probe strategy so that inspections continue during an outage even if one probe needs service.

Using a Video Borescope Well (General Guidance)

These points are general practice rather than Waygate data. Select the shortest probe length that reaches the inspection area, because longer probes reduce articulation and handling. Choose the optical tip according to the distance to the surface and the field of view needed. Never force the articulation section through tight bends, protect the insertion tube from sharp edges, and clean and inspect the probe after each job. Use the MDI workflow on the Mentor Flex+ to keep image names and asset locations consistent, so that results can be compared between outages.

About brand
Ultrasonic inspectors usually call these instruments Krautkramer, the name that Waygate Technologies still places on its flaw detectors and thickness gauges. The company makes non-destructive testing and inspection equipment. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Waygate ultrasonic flaw detectors and thickness gauges for inspection companies, fabricators and plant integrity teams in Oman. Earlier units of the same families carry GE Inspection Technologies labels, which helps when identifying an older instrument.

Waygate Krautkramer instruments listed here

Two portable flaw detectors are listed: the Krautkramer USM 36 and the lighter USM Go+. For wall thickness there are the DM5E corrosion thickness gauge, which works with dual-element probes on pipes, vessels and tanks, and the Krautkramer CL Go+ precision thickness gauge. These Waygate NDT instruments are used for weld inspection, corrosion surveys and incoming material checks.

Ordering Waygate NDT equipment: what we need

Name the instrument and the exact version or software options, since each model is sold in several configurations, for example the DM5E with or without data logger. List the probes with frequency, element size and connector type, plus cables, calibration blocks, wedges and couplant. State the material, thickness range, surface temperature and the test standard you work to. For accessories or spares for an instrument you already own, send its serial number. We quote throughout the GCC.
