Waygate Krautkramer DMS Go+ Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge

Description

Overview

The Krautkramer DMS Go+ is a handheld A-scan ultrasonic thickness gauge from Waygate Technologies, a Baker Hughes business. It is built for accurate and repeatable wall thickness measurement, data recording and data management, with an intuitive arrow keypad and a large display. The DMS Go+ series comes in three models, DMS Go+ Basic, DMS Go+ and DMS Go+ Advanced, and all of them can be upgraded with additional features. Because the gauge uses the same operating platform and hardware as the USM Go+ flaw detector, a software upgrade turns it into a full flaw detector.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Krautkramer DMS Go+ to corrosion inspection teams, asset integrity contractors, refineries, gas plants, power stations and tank farms in Oman and across the GCC. Our engineers in Muscat help customers select the right model, probes and software options, and we provide engineering support for sites in Muscat, Sohar, Duqm, Salalah and the interior fields.

Measurement Principle

The Krautkramer DMS Go+ drives a dual or single element probe with a spike pulser of 120 to 250 V that is automatically matched to the probe. Sound travels through the wall and reflects from the back surface, and the instrument converts the measured transit time into thickness using the material velocity. A zero crossing technique gives stable, reliable readings, while automatic gain control improves repeatability for corrosion monitoring. Measurement techniques include zero crossing, interface pulse to first echo, multi-echo, TopCOAT and Auto-V. Showing the A-scan next to the reading lets the inspector confirm that the gauge is locking onto the true back wall echo rather than a pit, a lamination or noise.

Measuring the remaining wall thickness through paint coatings is one of the listed applications, and the optional TopCOAT technology measures the coating thickness as well as the metal thickness. Auto-V measurement determines thickness on components with unknown sound velocity without a calibration block. Built-in temperature compensation in the Krautkramer DMS Go+ keeps readings accurate on hot surfaces up to 540 °C (1,000 °F) when suitable high-temperature probes are used, and calibration can be one-point or two-point with automatic or manual on-block and off-block zero and automatic V-path correction.

Engineering Design of the Krautkramer DMS Go+

The Krautkramer DMS Go+ has a 5-inch, 800 × 480 pixel display with a brightness above 200 cd/m², sized to reduce eye strain and adjustable for different light conditions. It can be shown in portrait or landscape, and a flip function allows comfortable use by left-handed and right-handed operators. The housing measures 175 × 111 × 50 mm, weighs about 850 g with battery and is sealed to IP67. Probes connect through a dual LEMO-00 socket, and the Li-ion battery can be recharged on or off the instrument.

The on-board data recorder of the Krautkramer DMS Go+ stores up to 100,000 readings per file, with multiple files on the SD card and eight file formats. A-scan, B-scan and MicroGrid attachments can be saved with readings, and data can be organised in preset, custom or advanced file structures. Data is transferred by SD card or micro USB and exported in formats such as CSV, PDF, DAT, XML and JPG, and the gauge is compatible with the UltraMATE and UltraMATE Lite data management programs.

Key Features

The Krautkramer DMS Go+ offers the following features for corrosion and wall thickness work:

  • Thickness, A-scan, B-scan, Min/Max capture, differential and temperature-corrected display modes.
  • Zero crossing measurement and automatic gain control for stable, repeatable readings during corrosion monitoring.
  • Temperature compensation for accurate measurement on surfaces up to 540 °C.
  • TopCOAT option for simultaneous coating and metal thickness, and Auto-V for unknown sound velocities.
  • Data recorder with up to 100,000 readings per file and attachments of A-scans, B-scans and MicroGrids.
  • Arrow keypad, one-hand operation and a menu-directed calibration process.
  • Rugged IP67 housing of about 850 g for harsh outdoor environments.
  • Software upgrade path to a complete flaw detector based on the USM Go+ platform.

Industrial Applications

Typical applications of the Krautkramer DMS Go+ are the inspection and monitoring of corrosion in pipes, tubes, vessels and tanks, the measurement of remaining wall thickness through paint coatings, the inspection of tubes with complex geometry, and maintenance checks in aerospace. In power generation the gauge monitors boiler efficiency by measuring oxide scale inside boiler tubes with the special OSS-10 probe, and in the metals industry it measures austenitic materials. The B-scan and grid recording make it well suited to risk-based inspection programs where the same points are measured every shutdown.

In Oman, users of the Krautkramer DMS Go+ include pipeline integrity teams, refinery and petrochemical maintenance departments in Sohar, LNG and gas processing facilities, independent power and water plants with boilers and heat recovery steam generators, and tank inspection contractors. Seven Star LLC supplies the Krautkramer DMS Go+ with related thickness and flaw detection equipment, such as the Waygate Krautkramer CL Go+ precision thickness gauge, the Waygate DM5E thickness gauge and the Waygate USM Go+ flaw detector.

About brand
Ultrasonic inspectors usually call these instruments Krautkramer, the name that Waygate Technologies still places on its flaw detectors and thickness gauges. The company makes non-destructive testing and inspection equipment. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Waygate ultrasonic flaw detectors and thickness gauges for inspection companies, fabricators and plant integrity teams in Oman. Earlier units of the same families carry GE Inspection Technologies labels, which helps when identifying an older instrument.

Waygate Krautkramer instruments listed here

Two portable flaw detectors are listed: the Krautkramer USM 36 and the lighter USM Go+. For wall thickness there are the DM5E corrosion thickness gauge, which works with dual-element probes on pipes, vessels and tanks, and the Krautkramer CL Go+ precision thickness gauge. These Waygate NDT instruments are used for weld inspection, corrosion surveys and incoming material checks.

Ordering Waygate NDT equipment: what we need

Name the instrument and the exact version or software options, since each model is sold in several configurations, for example the DM5E with or without data logger. List the probes with frequency, element size and connector type, plus cables, calibration blocks, wedges and couplant. State the material, thickness range, surface temperature and the test standard you work to. For accessories or spares for an instrument you already own, send its serial number. We quote throughout the GCC.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the DMS Go+ Basic, DMS Go+ and DMS Go+ Advanced?
All three are A-scan thickness gauges with the same arrow-keypad operation. They differ in the functions included, from simple A-scan verification up to B-scan and full data recording, and each model can be upgraded with additional features later.
Can the Krautkramer DMS Go+ measure through paint?
Yes. Measurement of remaining wall thickness through paint coatings is a listed application of the gauge, and the optional TopCOAT technology measures the coating thickness as well as the metal thickness.
Can the gauge be used on hot pipework?
The DMS Go+ has built-in temperature compensation for accurate measurement up to 540 °C (1,000 °F) when used with suitable high-temperature probes. The instrument itself operates in ambient temperatures from 0 to 55 °C.
Can the DMS Go+ be upgraded to a flaw detector?
Yes. It uses the same operating platform and hardware as the USM Go+ portable flaw detector, so a software upgrade adds a full flaw detector with high near-surface resolution and a wide PRF range, letting inspectors carry one instrument for both tasks.
Does Seven Star LLC supply the Krautkramer DMS Go+ in Oman?
