E-Totco Electronic Drift Survey Tool

Description

An electronic drift indicator for vertical hole surveys

The E-Totco electronic drift survey tool is an electronic instrument for vertical drift surveys that displays and prints the survey result together with its accuracy. NOV states that it is a drop-in replacement for all vertical mechanical controlled vertical drilling (CVD) instruments and is designed for use with the standard NOV pressure barrel, known as a Go-Devil. It forms part of the M/D Totco family of data acquisition and information management products.

What the tool changes on the rig

With survey on demand the driller no longer guesses the survey time, which reduces the risk of a missed or moving survey. The multishot capability allows the tool to be dropped at total depth so that surveys are taken while tripping out, which NOV links to avoiding nonproductive time caused by stuck pipe. The recorded well temperature lets the driller correlate temperature with each survey, and the printed accuracy figure removes uncertainty over survey quality.

Confirm the barrel size and thread, the hole temperature and depth, the printer and data interface and the RigSense version used on the rig before ordering. The flyer carries no ordering codes or dimensions.

About brand

M/D Totco is a brand of drilling instrumentation and rig data systems owned by NOV. It combines two businesses from the 1920s: Martin-Decker, formed in 1928 when Elmer Decker and Frosty Martin bought out the Loomis Oilwell Control Company, and Totco, the Technical Oil Tool Corporation, founded in 1929 to make a mechanical drift recorder. Varco acquired both in 1990 and formed M/D Totco.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list M/D Totco instruments for drilling contractors and rig maintenance in Oman and the GCC.

Milestones

  • 1928: Martin-Decker is formed.
  • 1929: Totco is founded.
  • 1990: Varco combines the two as M/D Totco.
  • 1999: The RigSense wellsite information system is introduced.

M/D Totco product series

Weight instruments include the anchor type hydraulic weight indicators, the GM6A and GM6AP single pointer indicators and the GM4 and GM4P compound pointer indicators. The H6E is a tong line pull indicator with load cell.

Pressure products include the TRU-VUE GM14 unitized pressure gauge and the DBS107A and DBS112A pressure debooster systems, and the E-Totco is an electronic drift survey tool.

Hydraulic weight indicators read the dead line tension through a load sensor at the anchor and show hookload on a large dial in front of the driller. Debooster systems isolate gauges from drilling mud while passing the pressure signal.

Where M/D Totco instruments are used

Hookload and weight-on-bit reading, mud pump and standpipe pressure, tong torque and wellbore inclination surveys on drilling and workover rigs.
